Tenuta di Angoris srl - Località Angoris 7 - 34071 CORMONS (GO)
Friuli Colli Orientali DOCG Picolit from Tenuta di Angoris: a diamond of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Born in the rolling hills of the Colli Orientali, Picolit is a testimony to the deep bond between a unique grape variety and its territory of origin. The area rich in ‘ponca’, a soil composed of marl and sandstone of Eocene origin, lends richness to the wines produced. This soil poor in organic substance, but rich in minerals, forces the vines to work hard, concentrating the aromas and creating wines of great complexity and elegance. The climate, on the other hand, is temperate with large temperature swings between day and night, a key factor in the development of intense aromas in the grapes. Classified as DOCG Friuli Colli Orientali, this denomination guarantees the highest quality standards. Picolit is a rare and delicate indigenous grape variety, known for its pollination problem that severely limits grape production. The few bunches that reach maturity have a high sugar concentration, ideal for the production of passito wines of rare aromatic intensity and sweetness. This ‘defect’ is actually the key to its success: fewer grapes, but of exceptional quality. After manual harvesting, the must ferments for 20 days in tonneaux, where it also undergoes malolactic fermentation. The wine then rests for 48 months in oak tonneaux, acquiring complexity and harmony. A further 16 months of bottle ageing completes the process, making this Picolit a mature and fully enjoyable wine. In the glass it has a golden yellow colour with amber highlights. The nose is a triumph of aromas: acacia and orange blossom, lime, fig, acacia honey and custard, all enhanced by subtle spicy notes of coffee and orange peel. In the mouth, it surprises with an elegant sweetness, a warm, velvety structure and an extraordinary length that invites a second sip. Thanks to its structure and long ageing, Picolit is a wine that can be enjoyed immediately, but also promises to evolve beautifully for more than 15 years. Perfect with mature and herbed cheeses, foie gras, cantucci and dry pastries. It is a meditation wine par excellence, to be savoured slowly to appreciate every nuance.
Tenuta di Angoris has been located in the municipality of Cormons since 1648, the year in which the Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand III of Habsburg thanked Locatello Locatelli for his service in the 30 Years' War by donating 300 fields in the area known as “Langoris”. Today, it is Marta Locatelli who runs the family business, thanks to the collaboration of oenologist Alessandro Bologna, who is in turn assisted by a dynamic and cohesive staff. The Tenuta's 75 hectares of vineyards are located in the most suitable areas for regional viticulture (DOC Friuli Isonzo - DOC Friuli Colli Orientali - DOC Collio). The Angoris Estate started a long time ago on a path aimed at respecting the environment and natural resources. Since 2017, in fact, they have been able to boast S.Q.N.P.I. recognition - Sistema di Qualità Nazionale Produzione Integrata (National Quality System for Integrated Production) - an agri-food production system that uses all means of production and defence of agricultural production from adversities, aimed at minimising the use of synthetic chemical substances and rationalising fertilisation, in compliance with ecological principles.
