Château Guiraud Sauternes 1er Grand Cru Classé 2020
  • Château Guiraud presents this interesting Sauternes 1er Cru Classé. The particularities of the Sauternes terroir are fundamental to the production of unique sweet wines. Here, the climate characterised by morning mists and warm afternoons favours the development of a noble rot, Botrytis cinerea, which concentrates the sugars in the grapes, giving them an extraordinary intensity and aromatic complexity. 65% Sémillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc, this combination gives the wine great aromatic richness, with a perfect balance between sweetness and freshness. Harvesting takes place in September, when the berries are already affected by noble rot, revealing a pleasant aromatic freshness. Harvested by hand, and rigorously selected three times, only the best fruit is chosen. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, 90% of which are new and 10% one year old, and lasts 3 to 6 weeks. The same containers are also used for the ageing phase, which lasts 18 to 24 months. This Sauternes is distinguished by its complex aromatic profile, with notes of apricots, honeysuckle, lemons, mango crumble, earl grey tea and vanilla berries. In the mouth, it is elegant and refined, with a perfect balance of sweetness and freshness, and a long, vibrant finish. Perfect to enjoy with desserts, such as crème brûlée, fruit cakes or chocolate mousse. Also try it with blue cheeses.

Château Guiraud is one of the most important properties in the south of Bordeaux. This big name in the Sauternes appellation has been guided since its creation by a pioneering spirit. Since 1996, the estate has been committed to biodiversity and was certified organic in 2011. Today, it has around 85 hectares of vineyards on sandy gravel and clay soil. The white varieties typical of the region dominate here, with Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.
