Castello di Gussago La Santissima - Via Manica, 8, 25064 Gussago (BS)
In the heart of Franciacorta, a land dedicated to the production of Metodo Classico sparkling wines, lies Castello di Gussago. And here, among rolling hills and lush vineyards, its Franciacorta DOCG NobleBlanc is born, a Blanc de Blancs of great finesse and elegance. The pure Chardonnay grapes, in this case, grow on clay-limestone soils, capable of giving the fruit a mineral character and great freshness. The cool and ventilated climate is mitigated by the presence of Lake Iseo, which favours a slow and gradual ripening of the grapes, guaranteeing a perfect harmony between sugars and acidity. The grapes, harvested at the right degree of ripeness, are processed with the utmost care, adhering to the strict Franciacorta regulations. It starts with a soft pressing, in the absence of oxygen to preserve the integrity of the fruit. This is followed by alcoholic fermentation in steel at a controlled temperature, thanks to which the bases are created, then destined for the delicate phase of re-fermentation in the bottle. In this case, maturation on the lees lasts at least 24 months, giving the finished wine complexity and harmony. In the glass, the NobleBlanc has a beautiful pale straw yellow colour, enhanced by greenish reflections. The bouquet is elegant and refined, with hints of white flowers, aromatic herbs and delicate vanilla notes that intertwine in an irresistible olfactory harmony. In the mouth, it is creamy and smooth, with a lovely lively freshness and mineral savouriness. Perfect to accompany various occasions, it is suitable for aperitifs. But it is also an ideal companion for a fish menu, enhancing the delicate flavours of shellfish and seafood dishes.
Gussago Castle is one of those places where every element contributes to creating perfect harmony. Located on Monte della Santissima, in the municipality of Gussago, this ancient Roman and Longobard settlement is nestled in the picturesque Franciacorta region. From the top of the Barbisone hill, towers a monumental complex that, with its battlements, pinnacles and turrets, offers a fascinating spectacle to anyone heading from Brescia towards Lake Iseo. In this unique setting, the Castello di Gussago winery has found its ideal habitat. The beating heart of the winery is its 20 hectares of vineyards, which are distinguished by a variety of soils and exposures. Four of these hectares are located at high altitude, terraced and surrounded by the old convent, with clay-limestone soils ideal for viticulture. The other 16 hectares, distributed in the municipality of Gussago, are mostly located in elevated areas, characterised by loose moraine soils with a good skeleton component. Six hectares are destined for the production of Cabernet and Merlot grapes, used for the vinification of Curtefranca Rosso. The remaining 14 are reserved for the cultivation of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, used mainly for the production of sparkling wine base and for Curtefranca white.
