Pier Paolo Grasso Azienda Vitivinicola - Via Giacosa, 22 - 12050 Treiso (CN)
Barbaresco DOCG La Fenice by Pier Paolo Grasso offers a rich and enveloping sensorial experience, the result of careful processing and a unique terroir. It is produced in Treiso, in the heart of the Langhe region of Piedmont, a charming village located in the Langhe, a region renowned for the production of fine wines. The hills of Treiso, in particular, with altitudes reaching 250 metres above sea level, are characterised by medium-textured calcareous soil with clayey areas, ideal for growing Nebbiolo. According to some, the name Treiso derives from the milestone that marked the third mile of the Roman road ‘Magistra Langarum’, which connected Alba Pompeia to Provence. Barbaresco is one of Italy's most prestigious wines, produced exclusively with Nebbiolo grapes. Its production regulations require a minimum ageing period of 26 months, of which at least 9 are in wooden barrels, to guarantee aromatic complexity and a balanced structure. For the production of La Fenice, the grapes are harvested by hand and undergo a controlled fermentation. The wine is then aged in large 5,000 litre oak barrels, to enhance the characteristics of the Nebbiolo without overpowering its delicate fruity and floral notes. In the glass, La Fenice has a bright garnet colour and good density. The nose opens with aromas of rose and fresh wisteria blossom, followed by hints of red fruits such as black cherry and plum. A well-defined spiciness introduces balsamic notes of mint and eucalyptus, juniper berries and a slight hint of cocoa on the finish. In the mouth it is very fresh, with a full and graceful body. The young tannins and the great flavour give it structure and persistence. Thanks to its structure and the balance between acidity and tannins, La Fenice has a remarkable ageing potential. Even 20 years after the harvest. On the table it lends itself to numerous combinations. Ideal with red meats, cured meats and traditional Piedmont cheeses, its freshness and complexity also make it a perfect accompaniment for rich and flavoursome dishes.
