      Barbaresco Bricco Faset DOCG 2019
    • The 2019 vintage, for Barbaresco, was characterised by a particularly well-balanced climate that made it possible to obtain a Nebbiolo of great quality, from which to make beautifully structured, complex and balanced wines with excellent ageing potential. A fine example of this is this Barbaresco DOCG Bricco Faset, proposed here by Azienda Agricola La Spinona. It comes from a vineyard of about three hectares, characterised by optimal exposures and a clayey-calcareous soil that favours a slow but complete ripening of the grapes. This unique terroir, thanks to its elevated position and constant ventilation, protects the grapes from disease, allowing ideal ripening of the tannins and aromatic components. Harvesting takes place between October and November: the grapes are picked by hand to ensure the selection of the best bunches. In the cellar, the grapes are placed on a vibrating roller for further selection. The vinification process begins with a cold maceration of about one day, followed by a 12-15 day fermentation at a controlled temperature, with punching-down and pumping-over at key moments to extract the noble substances from the skins. Finally, malolactic fermentation gives the wine a pleasant roundness and softness. Bricco Faset matures for 9 months in large 40-hectolitre Allier and Slavonian oak barrels. This passage helps to refine the aromas without overpowering the natural delicacy of the Nebbiolo. Before release, the wine completes its development with 12 months of bottle ageing, achieving greater aromatic complexity. In the glass, Bricco Faset has a ruby red colour that tends towards garnet with time. On the nose, it reveals a rich and enveloping bouquet, with notes of berries, white pepper, liquorice and hints of herbs such as pine, white mint and bay leaves. In the mouth, it is characterised by a velvety and harmonious texture, with well-integrated tannins and a remarkable taste persistence. Thanks to its structure, Barbaresco DOCG Bricco Faset is perfect with red meat dishes, such as roasts and braised meats, or with mature cheeses, bringing out its intense and refined personality.

La Spinona is a winery with a long family history. We are located in the municipality of Barbaresco, recognised by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Here, the winery covers 24 hectares of vineyards distributed among four farmsteads: La Spinona, La Ghiga, L'Albina and La Bergera. Of these, 20 hectares are dedicated to the cultivation of Nebbiolo for the production of Barbaresco, then Barbera, Dolcetto and Chardonnay, the only white grape grown on the estate. The remaining 4 hectares are in the commune of Novello. Here is a wonderfully south-facing vineyard, where the best Nebbiolo for Barolo is cultivated. The history of La Spinona began in 1920, when Giovanni Berutti bought his first vineyard in the Faset area of Barbaresco. The official foundation of the winery, however, dates back to 1967, when Pietro Berutti helped to market his wines, also abroad. The family tradition was later carried on by his son Gualtiero, who combined his experience as a veterinarian with a profound knowledge of the land and viticulture. Since then, five generations of the family have carried on the winemaking business with passion and dedication. Today, the company is run by Pietropaolo, who has managed to combine tradition with innovation. A graduate in oenology, Pietropaolo personally oversees every stage of winemaking, ensuring that each bottle of wine reflects the authenticity of the terroir and the craftsmanship that distinguishes La Spinona. Thanks also to the sustainable use of natural resources, such as the use of fertiliser from the estate's Fassona Piemontese cattle farm, the beautiful winery demonstrates a constant commitment to quality and respect for the environment.
