    Barbaresco DOCG 2020
  • A DOCG red wine from the Langhe, Barbaresco's fame is equal to that of Barolo, its more famous neighbour, and is distinguished by its complex character and unique elegance. Barbaresco is produced in 17 communes in the Langhe, in the province of Cuneo. Barbaresco was first mentioned in an official document in 1254, while the DOCG was established in 1980. The wine proposed here by Ceretto is made from pure Nebbiolo grapes from some of the best Barbaresco crus. The grapes come from vineyards located at 300 metres above sea level, where the soil is characterised by limestone and clay marl, giving the wine structure and complexity. After manual harvesting, fermentation takes place with long maceration on the skins. Afterwards, the wine rests for a good 24 months in oak tonneaux and large barrels and then completes its ageing period in the bottle. Ceretto Barbaresco has a luminous ruby colour with garnet reflections. The nose reveals elegant floral aromas of violets and dried flowers, hints of officinal and balsamic herbs, liquorice root, aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, morello cherry, delicately spicy nuances of roasting, bitter cocoa and blond tobacco. In the mouth, it has a medium structure, with a subtle tannic texture, fragrant and finely faceted aromas, leading towards a very harmonious, fresh, savoury and persistent finish.

The Ceretto winery was founded in the 1930s. At that time, Riccardo Ceretto, who owned no vineyards, vinified by buying grapes from others. The turning point coincided with the entry into the company of his sons Bruno and Marcello, who were immediately convinced of the importance of 'owning' one's own land. Bruno and Marcello had in mind the vineyards of Burgundy where excellent wine had been produced for more than a century thanks to a model that took into account the peculiarities of each vineyard. In the 1960s, Bruno and Marcello therefore began to map out the land from which the best wines came and to buy vineyards. And they would never leave the land again. To their children, Bruno and Marcello have handed over a masterfully preserved territory that over time has become a model on which the eyes of the world are focused.
