Between strength and harmony, the Barbaresco DOCG Argè by Piazzo Comm. Armando is a tribute to the history and tradition of the Piazzo family. A wine characterised by great personality, born from the skilful blend of Nebbiolo grapes from different vineyards in San Rocco Seno d'Elvio and Treiso. A label of great balance and complexity. The hills here are sun-kissed and characterised by limestone-clay soils. Ideal conditions for Nebbiolo to ripen, expressing its characteristics to the full. The grapes are destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation takes place in steel vats at a controlled temperature, with maceration on the skins for about 30 days. This is followed by ageing for at least 9 months in large oak casks and a period of rest in the bottle in the cellar. In the glass the Barbaresco DOCG Argè has a lively intense ruby colour with garnet reflections. The nose opens with a complex and enveloping bouquet, with fruity notes of red fruits, cherries in spirit and jam, floral hints of dried violets and sweet spices. In the mouth it is dry and warm, with well-integrated tannins and a long aromatic persistence. The finish is harmonious and particularly persistent. Ideal in combination with meat-based first courses, main courses with good structure and complexity. Try it with mushroom risotto.
The valorisation of Nebbiolo and its ageing potential is one of the founding objectives of the Piazzo family's Alba estate. Something that might seem obvious today but that at the time, we are in the 1960s, turned out to be a very important intuition. Those were the times, in fact, when Nebbiolo was preferred to other more sought-after and therefore more profitable varieties. The cultivated estates were located in different areas of the Langhe and Roero, with estate vineyards ranging from Barbaresco to Barolo, including the most typical varieties of the area. Over the years, under the leadership first of the founder Armando and his wife Gemma, then of their daughter Marina and her husband Franco, and finally of grandchildren Simone and Marco, the Piazzo Comm. Armando winery has made respect for the territory, the dissemination of Piedmontese culture and the continuous search for improvement its cornerstones. This has resulted in strongly territorial wines that have not struggled to achieve excellent results on all the world's markets.
