Barbaresco DOCG Riserva Nervo Vigna Giaia, offered here by Piazzo Comm. Armando, comes from a vocated cru of Barbaresco, Vigna Giaia, and a careful selection of Nebbiolo grapes. A label of great complexity and longevity. Vigna Giaia is located in the commune of Treiso, an area with good southern exposure that guarantees perfect ripening of the grapes, developing intense and complex aromas. The grapes are destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation takes place in steel vats at a controlled temperature, with maceration on the skins for about 30 days. This is followed by ageing for at least 9 months in small oak barrels and a further resting period in the bottle in the cellar. What is obtained is a red wine with great personality, characterised by a beautiful intense garnet colour with orange reflections. The nose opens with a broad and enveloping bouquet, with hints of dried fruit, raspberry, jam, plums, floral notes of dried violets and geranium, sweet spices such as cinnamon, vanilla and tobacco. In the mouth, the wine is warm and intense. Tannic, with great structure and persistence. A long and persistent finish that leaves an indelible memory. Structure and complexity make it ideal to accompany structured main courses of red meat and game. It should also be tried with medium and long matured cheeses or with white Alba truffles. A wine that has won numerous international awards, this Barbaresco DOCG Riserva is a red of great longevity that can be kept for over 20 years.
The valorisation of Nebbiolo and its ageing potential is one of the founding objectives of the Piazzo family's Alba winery. Something that might seem obvious today but that at the time, we are in the 1960s, turned out to be a very important intuition. Those were the times, in fact, when Nebbiolo was preferred to other more sought-after and therefore more profitable varieties. The cultivated estates were located in different areas of the Langhe and Roero, with estate vineyards ranging from Barbaresco to Barolo, including the most typical varieties of the area. Over the years, under the leadership first of the founder Armando and his wife Gemma, then of their daughter Marina and her husband Franco, and finally of grandchildren Simone and Marco, the Piazzo Comm. Armando winery has made respect for the territory, the diffusion of Piedmontese culture and the continuous search for improvement its true cornerstones. This has resulted in strongly territorial wines that have not struggled to achieve excellent results on all the world's markets.
