Ada Nada Azienda Vitivinicola e Agriturismo. Via Ausario, 12 Località Rombone 12050 TREISO (CN) – Italy
From the hills of Treiso, where Nebbiolo expresses itself with refinement and complexity, comes this Barbaresco DOCG Valeirano by Ada Nada. The Valeirano sub-zone, one of the most renowned areas in the municipality of Treiso, is known for its white limestone marls of marine origin, with a slight clay component. The particularity of this soil gives the wine a unique minerality and finesse, while the south-west exposure, at an altitude between 200 and 350 metres, allows the Nebbiolo to ripen ideally, with excellent exposure to sunlight but also adequate ventilation. Ada Nada's Barbaresco Valeirano is a fine example of this, embodying the perfect balance between strength and finesse. The vinification process is designed to preserve the integrity and typicality of the grapes. Harvesting begins in the second or third decade of October, when the grapes have reached full ripeness. The grapes, harvested by hand in perforated crates, are crushed and destemmed, then placed in stainless steel tanks where fermentation takes place, with frequent punching-down to favour the extraction of aromatic compounds and tannins. Maceration takes place at a controlled temperature for about 10-12 days, followed by soft pressing. The wine continues malolactic fermentation in steel and is then aged in large oak casks and smaller barrels for 18-20 months. Bottling, without filtration, is followed by 6-8 months' rest in glass. Valeirano has an intense carmine red colour, which evolves towards garnet shades with time. On the nose, the bouquet is broad and seductive, with notes of violets, cherries and wild berries that blend with delicate balsamic and spicy hints derived from ageing in wood. In the mouth, it stands out for its freshness and sapidity, with elegant, velvety tannins that guarantee a long persistence. Excellent right from the start, this Barbaresco has great ageing potential. If well stored, it can evolve for 10-15 years, offering more mature and deeper nuances year after year. Ideal pairings are classic, starting with red meat dishes, roasts, game and mature cheeses. For lovers of territorial pairings, try the one with Castelmagno cheese.
The Ada Nada winery is located in the heart of the Langhe, in Treiso. Founded in 1919 by Carlo Nada in Rombone, in the commune of Barbaresco, the company has gone through several generations, each of which has contributed to enriching and growing this fine family business. With the third generation, led by the oenologist Gian Carlo Nada and his wife Ada, the company went through an important phase of expansion and modernisation, consolidating its name on the Italian and international wine scene. Today, after Gian Carlo's untimely death in 2012, Elvio, together with his wife Anna Lisa and supported by oenologist Ivon Picollo, continues to carry on the Nada family's mission, producing wines that reflect the beauty and complexity of the Langhe territory. The estate covers 9 hectares of vineyards, situated at an altitude of 300 metres, with south-west exposure. We are located in the prestigious Valeirano and Rombone sub-zones, iconic areas for Barbaresco production. Most of the vineyards have an average age of about 40 years. International grape varieties such as Sauvignon and Merlot have only recently been introduced, enriching the winery's offerings without affecting the typically Piedmontese identity. The traditional grape varieties cultivated here include Nebbiolo, the undisputed protagonist of the Barbaresco appellation, as well as Barbera. Harvesting is carried out strictly by hand. Each vineyard is carefully monitored to harvest only the best bunches, selected according to specific parameters that guarantee maximum expression of the terroir. In the cellar, Ada Nada's approach is centred on respect for the grapes and appreciation of the work done in the vineyard. The cellar, housed in an 18th century farmhouse, is equipped with 3000-litre oak barrels for ageing Barbaresco and barriques for wines such as Barbera Superiore and Langhe Rosso. The total production is around 50,000 bottles, half of which is reserved for Barbaresco, the flagship wine of the winery.
