CHARACTERISTICS
  • TypeVino rosso fermo
  • Location Piedmont
  • Grapes BARBERA 100%
  • Sensations Colour: ruby red with slightly garnet reflections. Nose: vinous with aromas of fresh fruit, delicate hints of vanilla and intense caramel. Taste: full, long and persistent, savoury but balanced.
  • Vinification We start with the destemming-crushing of the grapes and the transfer of the must into temperature-controlled horizontal vinifiers. Alcoholic fermentation with maceration lasts about 9 days at an initial constant temperature of 24 °C, which gradually rises to 28 °C. This allows excellent aromas to be obtained and the greatest possible quantity of polyphenolic substances to be extracted from the skins. After alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 18 °C. At the end of this phase, the wine is aged in barriques, with different degrees of use: a large part in new wood, but also second or third passage. This phase lasts for about 18 months, after which the wine spends another month in cement tanks and is finally bottled. Before release, it is in the bottle that it will enjoy a further and definitive period of refinement of six months.

    Laudana Nizza DOCG 2020
  • Laudana is one of the best expressions of Piedmontese Barbera. It is, in fact, a selection of grapes from the best vineyards registered in the Nizza DOCG. Located on sunny slopes characterised by clayey-sandy marls, with excellent exposures, the Laudana bricco is the hilly ridge from which most of the grapes used for its production come. An area considered by Vinchio's elderly winegrowers as the most suitable for the production of Barbera grapes. Harvested by hand in 20 kg crates, vinification is carried out with care and precision. Then the ageing phase, once the malolactic fermentation is over, takes place partly in 75 hectolitre wooden barrels and partly in small 225 litre oak casks. After 18 months, Laudana meets the bottle and is ready to be consumed. A wine with great personality, this Barbera has a beautiful, brilliant appearance. Intense ruby red in colour, tending towards garnet with ageing, it has an intense, ethereal, slightly spicy bouquet, with a velvety woodiness. In the mouth it is full-bodied and well-structured. It is harmonious and round, with light and sweet tannins, very persistent. It is ideal with savoury first courses with meat or mushroom sauces. It also goes well with main courses of red meat, such as braised and roasted meats, and even with game.

In 1959, the year it was founded, there were only 19. Today, in 2021, there are 192 members of the Cantina Cooperativa Vinchio e Vaglio Serra. In total they manage with care and passion about 450 hectares of vineyards. In particular Barbera, the so-called "Rubino di Vinchio", but also other typical local vines, such as Dolcetto, Cortese, Grignolino, Nebbiolo, Brachetto, Moscato, Freisa and Bonarda. To this dense group of autochthonous vines, i.e. typical of the area, we can also add the international vines that are best suited to the hills of Piedmont, such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Viognier. The vineyards, most of which are on very steep slopes, make the work particularly demanding but, at the same time, guarantee optimal exposures that result in perfect ripening. The quality of the harvested grapes is, of course, also influenced by the nature of the soil, whose mineral components guarantee the production of high quality wines. The winery, on the other hand, is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and modern winemaking facilities, and also has a large barrique cellar, built into the hillside, which guarantees constant and natural temperature and humidity. Here there are French oak barriques and barrels of various capacities, where the wines can age slowly. For as long as necessary.
