A top Barbera appellation, this DOCG comes from a rigorous selection in the vineyards of Nizza Monferrato, Agliano Terme and Moasca, where the vines of Frasca La Guaragna have an average age of 30 years. A fact that is not trivial, in fact the more mature vines produce grapes of superior quality, with a greater concentration of aromas and flavours. It is not improper, therefore, to say that this Nizza DOCG by Frasca La Guaragna is a wine that represents the excellence of Barbera, the very symbol of Monferrato. Vinification involves gentle crushing, leaving some grapes whole. A long maceration follows, during which the must extracts the best of the skins. No punching-down is required to keep the structure intact. After fermentation, the wine then matures for about 6 months in large oak barrels, which give it elegance without overpowering its fruity character. It then rests in the bottle for a long period, developing complexity and harmony. To the eye it reveals a deep garnet colour, enriched with ruby, violet and black reflections. The bouquet is broad and intense. Hints of plums and ripe cherries dominate, accompanied by floral notes of violets and spicy hints of cinnamon, cocoa and leather. In the mouth it is enveloping, with a dense structure and soft but well-present tannins. Long persistence that leaves a pleasant sensation of warmth and fullness in the mouth. A versatile wine, it goes well with rich and flavoursome dishes. It perfectly accompanies braised meats, roasts and game. Also ideal with mature cheeses or first courses with meat sauces. For an authentic Piedmontese experience, try it with a dish of ‘agnolotti del plin’ with roast sauce.
Today we are in the heart of Piedmont, in the rolling hills of Monferrato. Here we find Frasca La Guaragna, a winery born from the Frasca family's dream of producing wines that could capture the soul of the local terroir. This dream took shape when they met the oenologist Matteo Gerbi, originally from Asti, whose wealth of experience gained in prestigious cellars in the Langhe gave life to a clear and ambitious project. Today, Matteo leads a passionate team that follows every stage of the production process, from vineyard care to vinification. Frasca La Guaragna covers 22 hectares of carefully selected vineyards, where each parcel tells a different story of Monferrato, an area rich in biodiversity and oenological history. The company's approach is deeply rooted in respect for the land and people. Each row is cultivated using sustainable methods, enhancing biodiversity and promoting viticulture that protects the natural balance. In the cellar, work focuses on enhancing the peculiarities of each vintage, with careful vinification and minimal intervention to let the wine tell its own story.
