      Barbaresco Bricco Faset DOCG 2018
    • The 2018 Barbaresco vintage was marked by special climatic conditions that ended up enhancing the elegance and finesse of the wines. This is why the 2018 Barbaresco stands out for its fine structure and remarkable complexity. The one proposed here is a Barbaresco DOCG that comes to life in the Bricco Faset cru, a vineyard characterised by optimal exposures and a clayey-calcareous soil that favours a slow but complete ripening of the grapes. Covering an area of three hectares, the Faset cru is an ideal terroir for Nebbiolo, thanks to its elevated position and ventilation that preserve the grapes from disease and allow ideal ripening of the tannins and aromatic substances. This is proposed by Azienda Agricola La Spinona, a fine family business that has been operating in this area for five generations. Harvesting takes place between October and November. The Nebbiolo grapes of Bricco Faset are harvested by hand to ensure the selection of the best bunches. After harvesting, in perforated baskets, the grapes are soon taken to the cellar to be placed on a vibrating roller for further selection. The vinification process involves cold maceration for about a day, followed by a controlled fermentation of 12-15 days, with punching-down and pumping-over at key moments. Finally, malolactic fermentation gives the wine a beautiful roundness and great softness. This is followed by maturation for 9 months in large Allier and Slavonian oak casks, with a capacity of between 38 and 40 hectolitres. This choice allows the finesse of the aromas to be preserved without overpowering the natural delicacy of the fruit. Finally, before release, the wine matures for a further 12 months in the bottle, developing greater complexity. To the eye, Bricco Faset has a ruby red colour that tends towards garnet with ageing. The bouquet is intense, with notes of wild berries, white pepper and liquorice, accompanied by hints of aromatic herbs such as pine, white mint and bay leaves. In the mouth, it is velvety and harmonious, with a fine tannic texture and a great persistence that invites slow tasting. A perfect wine to pair with main meat dishes, such as roasts and braised meats, or with mature cheeses.

La Spinona is a winery with a long family history. We are located in the municipality of Barbaresco, recognised by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Here, the winery covers 24 hectares of vineyards distributed among four farmsteads: La Spinona, La Ghiga, L'Albina and La Bergera. Of these, 20 hectares are dedicated to the cultivation of Nebbiolo for the production of Barbaresco, then Barbera, Dolcetto and Chardonnay, the only white grape grown on the estate. The remaining 4 hectares are in the commune of Novello. Here is a wonderfully south-facing vineyard, where the best Nebbiolo for Barolo is cultivated. The history of La Spinona began in 1920, when Giovanni Berutti bought his first vineyard in the Faset area of Barbaresco. The official foundation of the winery, however, dates back to 1967, when Pietro Berutti helped to market his wines, also abroad. The family tradition was later carried on by his son Gualtiero, who combined his experience as a veterinarian with a profound knowledge of the land and viticulture. Since then, five generations of the family have carried on the winemaking business with passion and dedication. Today, the company is run by Pietropaolo, who has managed to combine tradition with innovation. A graduate in oenology, Pietropaolo personally oversees every stage of winemaking, ensuring that each bottle of wine reflects the authenticity of the terroir and the craftsmanship that distinguishes La Spinona. Thanks also to the sustainable use of natural resources, such as the use of fertiliser from the estate's Fassona Piemontese herd, the beautiful winery demonstrates an ongoing commitment to quality and respect for the environment.
