CHARACTERISTICS
  • TypeVino rosso fermo
  • Location Languedoc-Roussillon
  • Grapes Chardonnay
  • Sensations The cuvée has a beautiful pale colour with light golden hues. The nose develops aromas of mango, dried fruit, almond and hazelnut as well as citrus notes of grapefruit and orange blossom. On the palate, barrel ageing brings aromas of vanilla, cinnamon, fresh butter and spices. The finish is characterised by a beautiful minerality and good length.
  • Vinification The grapes are harvested when perfectly ripe, to allow the variety to express its full potential. Meticulous sorting of the harvest is carried out both during the harvest and when the grapes are received in the cellar. The latter are processed under inert gas to minimise the risk of must oxidation. The grapes are destemmed and cooled to 8°C before going to the press to extract the must. Much attention is paid to the pressing so that only the first and most qualitative juices are retained. The juices are then more or less racked off, depending on the desired aromatic profile. Fermentation lasts from 15 to more than 30 days depending on the degree of clarification and the temperature applied. A part of the wine is vinified and then aged in 225-litre Bordeaux barriques for about 4 months, while the rest is vinified in stainless steel vats thermoregulated at a low temperature in order to preserve the freshness and integrity of the aromas. The particularity of this variety lies in the nobility of its aromas and the delicacy of the wines obtained. Finally, after a slight clarification, the wine is bottled fairly early to preserve its fresh and fruity character.

"Côte des Roses" Chardonnay IGP 2022
  • We are in the area known as Languedoc-Roussillon, in the South of France and to be exact in Narbonne, the oldest Roman colony in Gaul, nicknamed 'the eldest daughter' of Rome outside Italy. It was here that Gérard Bertrand created this Côte des Roses, a fresh, young white from Chardonnay grapes. A simple but pleasant wine that is perfect on more than one occasion. The grapes, harvested when perfectly ripe, express their full aromatic potential. A meticulous sorting of the harvest is carried out, both during the harvest and when the grapes are received in the cellar, so as to be sure to eliminate any imperfect grapes. The grapes are then processed under inert gas to limit the oxidation of the must. The flower must obtained is then sent to the alcoholic fermentation phase, which continues for a minimum of 15 to more than 30 days, depending on the degree of clarification and the temperature applied. Part of the wine is then vinified and matured in barriques for about 4 months. While the rest of the mass is vinified in thermoregulated steel tanks to preserve the freshness and integrity of the aromas. Finally, after a slight clarification, the wine is immediately bottled, once again to preserve its fresh and fruity character. Pale in colour with slight golden hues, on the nose it is easy to discern aromas of mango, dried fruit, almond and hazelnut. Then citrus notes of grapefruit and orange blossom. On the palate, however, the barrique ageing brings aromas of vanilla, cinnamon, butter and spices. While the finish is characterised by a beautiful minerality and good length. A wine, as anticipated, super versatile, it lends itself well to aperitifs and full lunches. Excellent with delicate fish preparations, in particular, blue fish and tuna.

The story goes that Gérard Bertrand harvested his first grapes back in 1975, working alongside his father Georges for the next 12 years. He was then among the vineyards of Château de Villemajou in the heart of the AOC Corbières. Since then, almost half a century later, Gérard's business has grown a great deal, to the point where it now covers practically all the best terroirs in the South of France. What began as a small family estate under his leadership has developed into the most important producer in the region. Today, there are no fewer than 11 Châteaus under Gérard Bertrand's hat, producing all the major appellations of Southwest France. For years, the company has also been recognised as one of the most important producers of organic and biodynamic wines in the country. As well as for the production of rosé wines, including some of the world's best-selling and most prized.
