      Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG 2023
    • Cerasuolo di Vittoria is the only DOCG wine from the Sicilian region. A small oenological gem that every good Italian wine lover should try at least once. Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG owes its preciousness to the magic of the climate, the diligent cultivation of a few passionate workers, but above all to the virtues of its basic grape varieties, Nero d'Avola and Frappato. Gulfi cultivates its historic vineyards in the area of Chiaramonte Gulfi, in the province of Ragusa and the Iblei Mountains. It produces high quality grapes that are vinified separately in red, with a short maceration of the must on the skins, at a controlled temperature. The two wines thus obtained only meet at the end of alcoholic fermentation. After vinification, the wines rest for approximately seven months on their lees in steel tanks and, after bottling, for a further couple of months in the cellar. A deep cherry red colour with faint violet hues, this Cerasuolo di Vittoria amazes for the richness of its aromas, with clear and recognisable notes of fresh red fruit, peach and morello cherry, all well integrated with faint floral nuances. A pleasantly harmonious and elegant wine, it goes well with both white meat and fish dishes. Excellent with tuna.

The area in which the Gulfi winery is located is one of the most fascinating in the region of Sicily. We are in the extreme south of Italy, at the eastern tip of the island. Here, Vito Catania's family calls itself simply the 'guardian of the terroir'. A mission that has led them, over time, to select the best plots, suitable for viticulture, in the most renowned districts of Chiaramonte Gulfi, in the province of Ragusa, Siracusa and Randazzo, on Mount Etna. To the tradition inherited from his ancestors, since 1996 Vito Catania has added innovation, starting a long work of mass selection and careful production of unique wines. The Catania family has always been sensitive to biodiversity. That is why they have not only selected and improved their great indigenous grape varieties over the years, but have also endeavoured to experiment with some allochthonous varieties, such as Carricante in the Monti Iblei, or even international ones, such as Pinot Noir, of distant French origin. The cultivation of vines according to organic farming principles is only a natural consequence of the winery's production philosophy.
