  • Vinification Grapes harvested at perfect phenolic ripeness and protected with carbonic snow. Hot maceration for 12 hours, followed by fermentation at controlled temperature. Devatting after 4 days of fermentation with the skins. Maturation on fine lees until malolactic fermentation takes place (November)

  • The Vignaioli del Morellino offer this pleasant Ciliegiolo Maremma Toscana DOC, where the typical Tuscan variety, Ciliegiolo, is joined by 15% Alicante grapes. Again, this is a typical variety for the region but considered to originate from Spain, where it is still one of the most popular wines. However, clones of this variety can be found in several countries around the Mediterranean basin, which take different names depending on location. From Garnacha in Spain to Grenache in France. In Italy, on the other hand, and particularly in Sardinia, we speak of Cannonau. While in the Marche, Alicante is called Vernaccia di Serrapetrona or Vernaccia Nera. After the harvest, the grapes are protected with the use of carbonic snow. Vinification is traditional, with maceration of the skins for 12 hours and fermentation at a controlled temperature. After racking, the wine then matures on its fine lees until malolactic fermentation is complete. Luminous ruby red, the nose offers pleasant fruity scents, with hints of cherries and berries combined with floral hints. In the mouth, it is fruity and has excellent structure. Dry and enjoyable, it is a well-balanced wine thanks to elegant tannins and a fresh note. The finish is also pleasant, where it reveals itself to be a wine characterised by an excellent persistence with fruity memories. Excellent with savoury first and second courses, to be best appreciated, this Maremma red requires a classic pairing with grilled steak.

    That of Cantina del Morellino is a fine story of successful cooperation in Tuscany. Founded in 1972, in fact, the cooperative winery of the Vignaioli del Morellino di Scansano was born thanks to the initiative of a small group of local producers, aware that in an increasingly large and global market, joining forces could really make the difference. That the initiative was the right one is proved by the fact that in the space of a few years that small group of visionaries has gradually expanded, without losing the helm and without compromising. In the 1980s, in fact, when many cooperatives decided to concentrate on quantity, the Vignaioli del Morellino continued to focus on quality. Huge investments have therefore been made over the years, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Investments that, over time, have fortunately paid off. Today there are about 170 members of the winery, who work about 700 hectares of vineyards with passion and skill. Excellent quality, at excellent prices. This is, 50 years after its foundation, the cooperative winery of the Vignaioli del Morellino di Scansano. Certainly one of the most interesting production realities of the entire Maremma.
