FATTORIA MANTELLASSI DI ALEARDO & GIUSEPPE MANTELLASSI - LOCALITA' BANDITACCIA - MAGLIANO IN TOSCANA (GR)
Maremma Toscana DOC, Fattoria Mantellassi's Canneto is a young red wine made from pure Sangiovese grapes. Specifically, it is obtained from a blend of various clones of Sangiovese, cultivated in the Maremma hills. Here, in the heart of Tuscany, the climate is hot and arid, with little rainfall. Ideal conditions for the cultivation of Sangiovese, which best expresses its characteristics here. A Tuscan native par excellence, Sangiovese is known and appreciated throughout the world. Canneto is the result of traditional red wine processing. After the harvest, the grapes are destemmed and crushed. The must obtained ferments in steel at a controlled temperature. This is followed by a period of ageing in steel for several months before bottling. In the glass, this Sangiovese from the Mantellassi house has an intense ruby red colour. The nose has aromas of red fruits, such as cherry and blackberry, with floral and spicy notes. On the palate it is lightly structured, drinkable and flowing, with good tannin and a moderately persistent finish. A pleasantly versatile wine, it goes well with a wide variety of dishes. In particular with red meats, cured meats and mature cheeses. Try it with first courses with meat sauce or meat sauces.
Fattoria Mantellassi: Ambassadors of Morellino. What more can you add? "Fattoria Mantellassi," reads the company's website, "made a decisive contribution to the establishment of the Denominazione di Origine Controllata of Morellino di Scansano in 1978 and is considered one of the most prestigious producers. Hailing from Pistoia, the Mantellassi family moved to the Scansano and Magliano area around 1860 to ply their trade as 'potini' and 'grafters'. The planting of the first vineyards dates back to a century later, in 1960, when the first four hectares were established at Banditaccia. Today, the Fattoria can count on about one hundred hectares under vine on some of its many hillsides. Here Sangiovese is the absolute protagonist. And with it grape varieties such as Alicante, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Canaiolo Nero, Malvasia Nera, Ciliegiolo, and the 'whites' Vermentino and Sauvignon. The Mantellassi Winery, on the other hand, is located in a strategic position, a few kilometres from Magliano in Toscana and close to each of the vineyards. This makes it possible, during the harvesting period, to optimise work and have the grapes in the cellar very quickly, preserving all their best characteristics.
