Shows red-cherry and orange-peel aromas and flavors. Medium body, lightly firm tannins and a fresh finish. Drink now.
Once upon a time, there were few wineries offering a pure Ciliegiolo. This grape was mainly destined to be part of the Chianti blends, in support of the typical Sangiovese. Yet this grape has shown that it has what it takes to give life to deeply territorial wines of great pleasantness. And so it is that more and more often now, you come across a bottle like the one proposed here by Mastrojanni. "Deep and savoury, typical of the grape variety and the soils in which it is born", this is how it is described. It is a Toscana IGT, 100% Ciliegiolo, matured in barrels for a period of around 8 months, before bottling and at least a further 4 months in the cellar waiting for the wine to reach full maturity. In the glass it has a beautiful, intense colour with almost impenetrable violet reflections. The nose is certainly not shy. On the contrary, it shows great intensity, with notes reminiscent of ripe cherries, accompanied by blueberry jam. In the mouth, it is opulent and soft, with sweet tannins that underline the pleasant savouriness typical of the variety. It is a very pleasant red wine. An easy to match wine that can accompany pasta, roast white meats and charcuterie platters every day. A must try!
Azienda Agricola Mastrojanni is located in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, at the southern end of the municipality of Montalcino, in the province of Siena. The home of Brunello, an artistic and architectural heritage immersed in the splendour of a nature with a high wine vocation. Founded in 1975, well before Montalcino was what we all know today, today the winery covers 109 hectares, 40 of which are planted with vines, 17 of which are Brunello. The vineyards are between 8 and 41 years old, with altitudes ranging from 190 metres to 410 metres above sea level. Vineyards face south-east, with dense plantings, designed to obtain the highest quality. Moreover, despite the fact that the Brunello DOCG regulations impose a limit of 80 quintals per hectare, yields on the estate never exceed 50 quintals. Sangiovese, as it should be, is the absolute protagonist of Mastrojanni wines, declined in different labels. With him Cabernet Sauvignon Moscato, Malvasia di Candia and Sauvignon Blanc.
