Ardenza, Sicilia DOC Rosso, proposed here by Cottanera, is an intense and structured wine, produced from 100% Mondeuse grapes grown in Castiglione di Sicilia, in the province of Catania, on the slopes of the Etna volcano. A wine that comes from a unique terroir, characterised by volcanic soils rich in minerals and a cool, breezy climate. These extreme conditions give the Mondeuse grapes a strong and decisive character, with intense aromas and a distinct minerality. The Mondeuse is a black grape variety originating in Savoy, France, which has found an ideal soil on Etna to express itself at its best. This grape variety prefers cool climates and complex soils, such as Etna's volcanic soils, where it can best develop its characteristics. The Mondeuse grapes used to produce Cottanera's L'Ardenza are cultivated at around 700 metres above sea level, with good exposure to the sun. As soon as it is poured into the glass, this Sicilian red has a beautiful intense ruby colour with garnet hues. The nose surprises with a broad and complex bouquet, characterised by a fresh vegetal note and intense fruity hints of morello cherry, cherry and blueberry. To these are added pleasant and elegant balsamic, mineral and spicy notes that recall the volcanic nature of the area. In the mouth, the wine is warm, enveloping and structured, with dense tannins of great quality and a pleasant savoury note that gives balance and persistence. The finish is long and very persistent, with pleasant mineral notes that leave a lasting impression. Perfect with savoury red meats such as lamb, Florentine steak or braised meats, it also goes well with game, mature cheeses and first courses with meat sauces.
