"Falde" Rosso Terre Siciliane IGT 2022
  • Nerello Mascalese (80%), Syrah (15%) and Frappato (5%), Falde is a Terre Siciliane IGT. A happy synthesis of the two most suitable areas for wine production in the eastern part of the island, this wine is the result of the encounter between two prized native vines and an international variety perfectly adapted to the Sicilian climate. Grapes of Nerello Mascalese, cultivated at high altitudes on lava soils rich in minerals, with Syrah and Frappato, from mainly sandy hillside soils. Ruby red with vivid purple hues, this fine Sicilian thoroughbred has rich and intense aromas, with notes of red fruit and spices. In the mouth, however, it is intensely fruity. Great softness and balance are combined with a nice drinkability and persistence. Falde Rosso is the wine to uncork with grilled meats, savoury first courses but also with cold meats and cheeses.

Who knows whether in 1898, when Francesco Nicosia, great-grandfather of the current owner, decided to open his first wine shop in Trecastagni, he already knew that Etna would one day become the very symbol of quality wine in Sicily. He probably hoped so. After all, Etna wine was already known and appreciated throughout Europe for its mineral strength and volcanic personality. From those fortunate beginnings to the current management the path has been long but consistent. Today the company is in the hands of Carmelo Nicosia, who has staked everything on the redevelopment of the business, investing in the expansion and restructuring of the vineyards, as well as in the construction of a modern processing cellar. Today Cantine Nicosia is a dynamic, modern and efficient company, capable of looking to the future while fully respecting tradition, thanks to a young but skilled staff. Native grape varieties and international varieties well adapted to the climate of Sicily, coexist to give life to wines of great personality, produced in full respect of the environment. The headquarters of the winery are still in Trecastagni, while most of the company's vineyards are not far away, at the foot of Monte Gorna, one of Etna's many extinct craters. The company also owns vast tracts of land in Vittoria, in the Ragusano area, where Cerasuolo DOCG is produced, and directly manages large expanses of vineyards in the rest of Sicily.
