    CHARACTERISTICS
    • TypeVino rosso fermo
    • Location Languedoc-Roussillon
    • Grapes Sauvignon
    • Sensations This cuvée has a pale, crystalline golden colour. A beautiful roundness in the mouth is brought by the terroir of the South of France, which allows it to develop notes of guava and passion fruit, while its citrus aromas bring much freshness and minerality.
    • Vinification To obtain the intensity that characterises this grape variety, Sauvignon must be harvested at a very precise moment. The grapes are tasted before harvest and then picked overnight to preserve the freshness of the fruit before being gently pressed on arrival in the cellar. For about 5 months, about 10% of the wine is vinified in French barriques, while the rest is put into temperature-controlled vats at low temperatures to preserve the richness and freshness of the aromas. Finally, after a slight clarification, the wine is bottled fairly early to preserve its fresh and fruity character.

"Côte des Roses" Sauvignon 2021 IGP
    • Gérard Bertrand offers this Pays d'Oc IGP Côte des Roses Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes come from the Narbonne area, the oldest Roman colony in Gaul, nicknamed the 'eldest daughter' of Rome outside Italy. The processing of Sauvignon, an aromatic variety typical of France (but not only), requires great care. In particular, in order to obtain maximum aromatic intensity, Sauvignon must be harvested at a very precise time. For this reason, the technicians in Gérard Bertrand's cellar taste the grapes before harvesting in anticipation of the ideal moment. The harvest is also carried out during the night to preserve the freshness of the fruit. In the cellar, the grapes are gently pressed and the mass is divided into two parts. One, approximately 10%, is vinified in barriques. The rest, on the other hand, is placed in temperature-controlled tanks to preserve the richness and freshness of the aromas. At the end of this long process, after a slight clarification, the wine is bottled, preserving its fresh and fruity character. Pale golden yellow in colour and crystal clear, the nose is finely aromatic, with clear hints of tropical fruit and citrus. In the mouth, however, it offers a nice roundness, with notes of passion fruit. Pleasant is the natural freshness and beautiful minerality. Excellent as an aperitif, this French white lends itself to accompanying delicately spiced foods. The most classic pairing, for example, is with Thai cuisine.

The story goes that Gérard Bertrand harvested his first grapes back in 1975, working alongside his father Georges for the next 12 years. He was then among the vineyards of Château de Villemajou in the heart of the AOC Corbières. Since then, almost half a century later, Gérard's business has grown a great deal, to the point where it now covers practically all the best terroirs in the South of France. What began as a small family estate under his leadership has developed into the most important producer in the region. Today, there are no fewer than 11 Châteaus under Gérard Bertrand's hat, producing all the major appellations of Southwest France. For years, the company has also been recognised as one of the most important producers of organic and biodynamic wines in the country. As well as for the production of rosé wines, including some of the world's best-selling and most prized.
