      Taurasi DOCG 2018
    • Taurasi is a DOCG red wine produced in Irpinia. Made from pure Aglianico (from Taurasi) grapes, it is considered one of the most important and prized wines in Italy and boasts a history stretching back thousands of years. The DOCG was obtained in 1993 and its production is governed by strict regulations that guarantee its quality and uniqueness. Aglianico grapes, in particular, must be grown in vineyards located in municipalities in the province of Avellino, at a minimum altitude of 400 metres above sea level. The wine must be aged for at least 3 years, of which at least 18 months in wooden barrels. The one proposed here by Famiglia Pagano comes from grapes harvested in the estate's vineyards in Taurasi and Paternopoli. Aglianico, an indigenous Campania grape, is known for its rusticity and its ability to give wines of great body and structure. Just like this Taurasi DOCG, which in the glass has an intense ruby red colour. The nose has hints of red fruit such as blackberry, plum and cherry, accompanied by spicy notes of black pepper and vanilla. In the mouth it is warm and soft, with a good tannic structure and a lingering finish. Good already today, it can also be kept for a few years in the cellar, to evolve and enrich itself with new nuances. On the table it goes well with red meat dishes, mature cheeses and earthy first courses. Perfect with roasts, chops, game and first courses with meat sauce, truffle and porcini mushrooms.

The Famiglia Pagano winery was founded in the mid-twentieth century in Boscoreale, on the slopes of Vesuvius, from the passion of Andrea. His tenacity and love for the land drove him to cultivate fine grapes in an area dominated at the time by the production of PDO tomatoes. Thirty years later, Andrea, flanked by his wife Raffaella, transformed his passion into a full-fledged winemaking business. Once again a courageous and countercurrent choice that proves to be a winner. Today, the family tradition is carried on by the new generations, with Ludovica, a doctor in oenology, and Andrea Jr., the founder's grandson, who decide to transfer the business to Luogosano, in the province of Avellino, the beating heart of Taurasi production. 36 hectares of vineyards in Avellino, Benevento, Naples and Salerno, tended with care and dedication. In particular, biodiversity and the ecosystem are preserved through the use of sustainable cultivation techniques, which guarantee grapes of the highest quality. The winery, located in a privileged position among the vineyards, is a perfect blend of modernity and tradition. Advanced winemaking technologies are harmoniously integrated with ancient production techniques, resulting in unique and refined wines.
