Elaborato e imbottigliato da Guido Berlucchi & C. Spa - CORTEFRANCA - ITALIA
If we find the indication Brut SatEn on the label, there can be no doubt. We are in Franciacorta and in that wine we will find only white grapes. In this case Berlucchi, for its Brut Sate?n of the '61 line, provides only Chardonnay, from the most suitable vineyards in the 19 communes of Franciacorta. The best of the best. The second fermentation, and subsequent ageing in contact with its own yeasts, lasts for at least 24 months, followed by at least another 2 months of rest in the cellar after disgorging. The reduced overpressure in the bottle, characteristic of the Saten type, lends elegant creaminess to this wine, which in the glass is rich with a soft, creamy mousse and a fine, continuous perlage. The nose presents a rich and elegant bouquet with hints of tropical fruit evolving into notes of candied citrus. In the mouth, it reveals marked acidity and savouriness. A full-bodied wine, it concludes with a long, precise finish. A very pleasant wine that goes well with delicately flavoured risottos and fish dishes.
What if we made a sparkling wine the French way? You said nothing! Yet in 1955, a young wine expert, Franco Ziliani, posed this very question to a country gentleman. That gentleman was Guido Berlucchi, who fortunately decided to follow up Ziliani's dream. With them, Giorgio Lanciani also joined the venture and the three of them practically gave life to the Franciacorta we know today. The challenge, to tell the truth, was by no means easy and it took the three of them a good six years to achieve their first significant results. But in 1961 - mark this date - the first three thousand bottles of Pinot di Franciacorta were finally sealed. Uncorked the following year, they proved to be excellent. From there on it would be a crescendo, starting the following year when Ziliani created the first Italian classic method rosé. Today Berlucchi is a brand that certainly needs no introduction. Guido Berlucchi passed away in 2000 but his name is now inextricably linked to that of Italy's most elegant sparkling wine. Today, Franco Ziliani's three children are at the helm of the company: Cristina, Arturo and Paolo. The size and numbers are those of a large enterprise. But the passion is unchanged and Guido Berlucchi is above all a family business, strongly rooted in its territory.
