100% Sauvignon Blanc, Clos du Château Paladi is a Pouilly Fumé AOC. The very symbol of the wines of the Loire, this appellation has inspired several producers around the world who have created various "Fumé" wines over the years. Imitations aside, however, no wine can rely on such a fortunate mix of natural conditions as the original Pouilly Fumé, which, in addition to climate and vine variety, also benefits from unique rocky soils known as Kimméridgian, with high percentages of white clay and marine fossils. This happy combination allows wineries such as Domaine Masson-Blondelet to bottle wines with a very distinct minerality, making the most of the varietal's characteristics. This Clos du Château Paladi, in particular, was created following the dictates of biodynamic agriculture and is a Vegan friendly wine. The advice, therefore, is to pair it with a fresh and tasty dish based on fresh seasonal vegetables.
Domaine Masson-Blondelet is located in Pouilly-sur-Loire, in the centre of France, along the course of the Loire. We are about 200 km south of Paris. Here, Michelle & Jean-Michel Masson followed a long family tradition in 1975 by founding their own winery. An onerous commitment that culminated, in 1980, with the construction of the modern wine cellar. A beautiful 3-level structure, entirely dug underground to process the wines by gravity. The estate has 21 hectares of vineyards, where the Sauvignon Blanc dominates and with it the Pinot Noir. The vineyards, which are located on slopes facing south/east, enjoy an ideal microclimate, thanks to the proximity of the river, which protects them from the extreme variations in temperature that would otherwise be quite frequent at those latitudes. The winery also owns 4 hectares of vineyards in Sancerre. The winery does not use any chemical fertilisers (for more than 40 years now) and for 20 years insecticides and herbicides have also been eliminated.
