Pezzale is an elegant Primitivo di Manduria DOP Riserva. A super intense wine that encapsulates all the expressive power of an enchanted land. The result of a pure processing of Primitivo grapes, this Salento red wine begins its journey with a long phase of skin maceration that lasts about 12 days. The whole time the mass of skins is kept in motion, with frequent délestage in stainless steel vats. At the end of vinification, the necessary maturation takes place in first-passage French oak tonneaux. Here it rests for about a year, before being bottled and left in the cellar for a further 6 months for final ageing. Produced in about 4,000 bottles, this elegant Primitivo di Manduria Riserva presents itself in the glass with an intense ruby colour, with garnet hues. The nose reveals great intensity and good complexity of ripe red fruit, interspersed with spicy and mineral nuances. In the mouth it offers a perfect balance between elegant tannins and lively freshness. Full-bodied, it guarantees a long taste-olfactory persistence. Trullo di Pezza can now count on about 32 hectares of vineyards, distributed in the vicinity of the Torricella winery, as well as in the territories of Maruggio, Lizzano and Manduria. We are in the province of Taranto, in the heart of green Apulia. It is no coincidence that the region's main grape variety, Primitivo, accounts for the largest area of production. But there is also room for Negroamaro, Fiano, Aglianico and Susumaniello. The vines take root in the much-vaunted 'red earth' of Salento, on a plateau dotted with centuries-old olive trees, not far from the sea. Here winters are mild and summers decidedly hot. The vineyard is tended organically, using natural products and, only in cases of extreme drought, emergency irrigation is used. The production heart of Trullo di Pezza is located in the farm of the same name. Here the entire winemaking process takes place outdoors, in an area of two thousand square metres, well harmonised with the surrounding greenery.
