      "Areale" Primitivo di Manduria DOC 2022
    • Write Primitivo and read Puglia. Yes, because this ancient and much-loved grape variety is actually native to Apulia, so deeply rooted in its territory that it has practically become its symbol. Primitivo is used to produce wines with intense aromas of ripe fruit, such as black cherries, plums and blackberries, and hints of spices such as black pepper and vanilla. A fine example of this is this Areale, which originates from grapes harvested 'between land and sea', in the cradle of DOC Manduria. It is from here that the best Primitivo grapes come, those that best represent the authentic and faithful expression of the varietal. Giustini works his grapes with care and skill, proceeding with maceration and alcoholic fermentation induced by selected yeasts. The process, with constant temperature control, protae for about 10 days. Immediately after racking, the wine is then passed into French oak barriques, where it continues its slow maturation. Ruby red in colour with garnet hues, this Primitivo has scents typical for the variety, with notes of red and dark fruit, such as black cherry, plum and cherry. In the mouth it is pleasantly soft and ample, with elegant tannins, well supported by a pleasant freshness. It is the right wine to accompany roasted and stewed meats, but also first courses with red sauces, rich soups and mature cheeses.

      Wine: a family affair. At least for the Papadopoli family, Apulian producers, justifiably proud of their origins. The winery is located in a middle land, between the sea of Taranto and the heights of the Valle d'Itria. Here is San Giorgio, a small town that falls within the Primitivo di Manduria DOC area. And it is here, for no less than four generations, that the family has handed down traditions, experience and passion for wine from father to son. The seed was planted in 1991 when Giuseppe Papadopoli, after spending years managing the vineyards of some of the most productive companies in the area, felt that the Apulian wine market was changing. Thus the first hectares were purchased, marking a turning point. The name chosen is that of the district of the first vineyards, Giustini precisely. From then on, from label to label, from success to success, the activity of the fine Taranto company has never come to a halt. And the good wines on offer today are there to prove it.
