Peiragal is an old Piedmontese dialect term, which identifies hills of good slope made up of large formations of very compact calcareous clay soil, with large stones. These conditions limit the absorption of rain and favour a very deep rooting of the vines, in search of humidity. The result is the production of sparse bunches and, therefore, a very structured wine, with sweet tannins, never too evident. This is the case of this Barbera d'Alba DOC proposed by Marchesi di Barolo, matured for a year in small 225-litre French oak barrels. The contribution of the wood adds a light woody note that joins the already wide range of scents and flavours, increasing its complexity. An intense sensation of pleasantness, balance and harmony that accompanies our senses for a long time. Ruby red in colour with bright, intense garnet edges, the bouquet is fresh and lively, with a clear hint of blackcurrants, berries, toasted hazelnuts and vanilla. Immediately pleasant, the taste is elegant, with soft, enveloping tannins. It is a local red wine and goes well with typical Langhe hors d'oeuvres, such as vitello tonnato and the classic vegetable flan. It is also perfect with richly seasoned first courses and meat dishes. It is also good with classic Piedmontese tome cheese and, more generally, with medium-aged hard cheeses.
Barolo, the extraordinary wine that the whole world envies us, was born just a few metres from the company headquarters. The historic cellars of Marchesi di Barolo are in fact located in the centre of Barolo, just a few steps away from the castle that was the home of the last Marchesi Falletti, the first ever to produce the noble red wine of kings. The Abbona family, the current owners of Marchesi di Barolo, ideally continue the work begun by the Fallettis, placing themselves as faithful interpreters of the traditional vines and their places. Never as in this case the saying "combining tradition and innovation" applies. The company works with the main vines of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, vinifying the most prestigious crus in purity, refining them and proposing them individually, to better exalt their different expressions. Knowledge of and respect for the different grape varieties and individual terroirs, combined with a vinification process that enhances their strengths. All this is Marchesi di Barolo.
