Barbera d'Alba is the most traditional of Piedmontese wines. Barbera d'Alba DOC Ruvei, offered here by Marchesi di Barolo, is made from a selection of grapes from the estate's vineyards that give the wine excellent structure and a vigorous but balanced character. The production regulations also allow the use of a small percentage (up to 15%) of Nebbiolo d'Alba, to increase finesse and elegance. This objective has been perfectly achieved by Marchesi di Barolo, which in this way obtains a softer wine, with greater structure and reduced acidity. This result is also achieved thanks to ageing in traditional Slavonian oak barrels, which contribute to making the wine more harmonious and fine in terms of bouquet. Deep ruby red in colour with purple hues, this Barbera has a fresh bouquet, with fruity notes reminiscent of blackberry, red fruit jam and spicy hints of vanilla and toasted hazelnut. In the mouth, the taste is full and enveloping, with a barely noticeable acidic streak. A wine for the whole meal, it is a perfect accompaniment to tasty hors d'oeuvres and meat dishes. Try it, for example, with classic mixed boiled meats or with a traditional vegetable soup.
Barolo, the extraordinary wine that the whole world envies us, was born just a few metres from the company headquarters. The historic cellars of Marchesi di Barolo are in fact located in the centre of Barolo, just a few steps away from the castle that was the home of the last Marchesi Falletti, the first ever to produce the noble red wine of kings. The Abbona family, the current owners of Marchesi di Barolo, ideally continue the work begun by the Fallettis, placing themselves as faithful interpreters of the traditional vines and their places. Never as in this case the saying "combining tradition and innovation" applies. The company works with the main vines of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, vinifying the most prestigious crus in purity, refining them and proposing them individually, to better exalt their different expressions. Knowledge of and respect for the different grape varieties and individual terroirs, combined with a vinification process that enhances their strengths. All this is Marchesi di Barolo.
