The indication is clear and leaves no room for doubt. This wine comes from Vigna San Sebastiano, a plot located in the hamlet of the same name in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba. We are just a few kilometres from Dogliani, in the heart of the Langa and the headquarters of the Chionetti family. Barbera d'Alba DOC, this red wine is produced with pure Barbera grapes, harvested at the end of September and vinified in steel tanks. Then, after racking, the wine is passed into large, un-toasted oak barrels where it matures slowly until it reaches the right complexity. This Barbera is not filtered before bottling. Intense ruby red in colour, the nose expresses itself with hints of cherry and plum to which an intriguing spicy note is added. In the mouth it is ample, with a decisive acidity, typical for the vine, well balanced by the fruit and structure. An extremely versatile and pleasant wine, it goes well with risotto and baked pasta.
The Chionetti family's link with the vine dates back to the 19th century. Although the real turning point came only in 1912, when Giuseppe Chionetti bought the farmstead in San Luigi, a particularly suitable area in the commune of Dogliani. From this moment on, the family linked its name above all to that of the Dolcetto grape, which it sold to the biggest merchants in the area. The marketing of bottles under their own name, however, was developed with the arrival in the company of Quinto, grandson of the founder Giuseppe, while it is Andrea, Quinto's son, who contributes to the growth of the family vineyards and the beginning of exports to the USA. Since 2013, Nicola, Quinto's grandson, has been carrying on the family tradition. Today the winery can contract, as well as on the three historical cru of Dogliani, also on 3 vineyards in the Barolo area purchased in 2015. All the vineyards have organic certification.
