    "Mentore" Morellino di Scansano DOCG 2022
  • The Morellino DOC was created in 1978, but the wine-making tradition of the area goes back much further. For many, it even dates back to Etruscan times. What is certain is that in 1813, the "Maiore del Comune di Scansano", in a letter sent to the Vice-Prefect of the Circondario di Grosseto, declared that in the previous year almost six thousand hectolitres of wine had been produced in the Scansano area, some of which of superior quality. Fattoria Mantellassi, Ambassador of Morellino, has played an important role in the enhancement of this traditional Tuscan red wine. Among its most appreciated labels, by critics but also by consumers in different countries, is without doubt this Mentore, Morellino di Scansano DOCG (since the 2007 harvest, Morellino has been promoted to "first division"). Sangiovese 85%, Cabernet Sauvignon 10% and Ciliegiolo 5%, this red wine is vinified using traditional methods in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. After vinification, maturation and refinement continue in stainless steel, before bottling and the last few months of rest before the shelf. Morellino di Scansano is perfect for accompanying tasty traditional dishes. Excellent with pappardelle with meat sauce, baked pasta (as grandma makes it) and, of course, grilled meat.

Fattoria Mantellassi," reads the company's website, "made a decisive contribution to the establishment of the Denominazione di Origine Controllata of Morellino di Scansano in 1978 and is considered one of the most prestigious producers. Coming from Pistoia, the Mantellassi family moved to the area of Scansano and Magliano around 1860 to work as "potini" and "grafters". The planting of the first vineyards took place a century later, in 1960, when the first four hectares were created in Banditaccia. Today, the Fattoria can count on about one hundred hectares of vineyards extending over some of the many hills of the Fattoria. Here Sangiovese is the absolute protagonist. And with it varieties such as Alicante, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Canaiolo Nero, Malvasia Nera, Ciliegiolo, and the "white" Vermentino and Sauvignon. The Mantellassi Winery, on the other hand, is located in a strategic position, a few kilometres from Magliano in Toscana and close to each of the vineyards. This makes it possible, during the harvest period, to optimise work and have the grapes in the cellar very quickly, preserving all their best characteristics.
