Azienda Agricola Il Verro s.r.l. Via Lautoni snc – Località Acquavalle 81040 Formicola – Caserta
It is born in the heart of Campania, in the hills surrounding Formicola, in the province of Caserta. We are talking about Terre del Volturno IGP Pallagrello Bianco, proposed here by Azienda Agricola Il Verro. Formicola is located along the Volturno river, a little-known area that enjoys a temperate climate, characterised by hot summers and mild winters, ideal for the cultivation of native vines. The soil is rich in minerals and gives the wines an extraordinary freshness and marked flavour. The native Pallagrello Bianco is a variety that has gained new visibility thanks to its ability to fully express the characteristics of the soil and climate of Campania. The Azienda Agricola Il Verro, certified organic, adopts an environmentally friendly approach in the countryside. The vines guarantee a limited but high quality production. The grapes are harvested by hand in the first half of September, when they have reached full ripeness. White vinification follows, in stainless steel, to preserve the fresh, fruity aromas typical of Pallagrello Bianco. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, without altering the natural characteristics of the initial fruit. At the end of processing, the wine rests briefly on the fine lees. Brilliant straw yellow in colour, clear and inviting, the nose reveals fresh hints of melon, almond, broom flowers and a refreshing note of mint. A rich and pleasant combination. In the mouth, however, it is characterised by excellent sapidity and a long, satisfying persistence.
The Il Verro winery, located in the heart of the Caserta hills, was founded by Cesare Avenia in 2003. We are located between Monte Maggiore and the Volturno river. This area, much loved by the Bourbon royal family, is famous for wild boar hunting and offers ideal conditions for viticulture thanks to its privileged position and continental climate. The winery takes its name from the ‘boar’ (the male of the wild boar) and produces high quality artisanal and organic wines from indigenous grape varieties typical of the region, including Casavecchia, Pallagrello Bianco and Nero and Coda di Pecora. Rediscovered after years of oblivion, these interesting autochthonous varieties are at the heart of the production. The excellently exposed vineyards are surrounded by rich Mediterranean scrub vegetation, consisting of centuries-old olive, walnut and cherry trees, which help create a perfect environment for the vines to grow.
