Az. vin. La Baia del Sole - via Forlino, 3 -19034 Antica Luni di Ortonovo (SP)
The jewel in the crown of the Federici winery, this Oro d'Isée - named after a great-great-grandfather who was called 'Iseo' - is the result of processing the best Vermentino grapes. The most 'golden' ones. From these wonderful fruits comes a small batch of wine to be stored and drunk only on the most important festive occasions. The grapes only come from two estate vineyards that are vinified separately from the others. We are always between Luni and Castelnuovo Magra, between 100 and 200 metres above sea level. 25-year-old vines, with very low yields, harvested by hand in mid-September. Once in the cellar, the grapes undergo a slow maceration in a temperature-controlled press for at least 24 hours. This is followed by soft pressing under vacuum to extract only the first-pressing must, which is then sent for fermentation. This is followed by a 90-day period on the fine lees and an ageing phase in steel. Straw yellow with golden hues, the nose reveals intriguing floral notes that give way to an intense golden apple. In the mouth, however, it reveals itself to be rich, ripe and balanced. Ideal as an aperitif, it goes well with elaborate fish, white meat and vegetable dishes.
That of Cantine Federici, La Baia del Sole, is. a beautiful story of family, passion and tradition. Originally from Ortonovo, in the heart of the Colli di Luni DOC area, the family boasts a long farming tradition that has been handed down over time since the early 1900s. The company's vineyards extend over the hills with a strong vocation for wine-growing that embrace the entire DOC area, with soils of different morphologies, immersed in the enchanting Mediterranean scrub. Here, the excellent exposure, the beneficial temperature range, the constant ventilation, the proximity of the sea and the special microclimate that characterises the Levante Ligure region create the best conditions for a production of the highest quality, with wines characterised by remarkable organoleptic and olfactory complexity. The company's production facility is also state-of-the-art, equipped with the latest technology and a modern isobaric bottling line. The new wine cellar covers 1600 square metres and was inaugurated in 2015, designed and built according to the principles of bio-architecture. This complements the three existing historical structures and represents the family's desire to reduce environmental impact and maximise energy savings. Today, the company produces a wide range of wines, although Vermentino, Liguria's native grape par excellence, is the undisputed star. Whites appreciated worldwide for their freshness, elegance and finesse.
