      "L'Airone" Vermentino Toscana IGT 2024
    • A sensory journey to the heart of Tuscany. Today we find ourselves in Castagneto Carducci, an enchanted village that has inspired poets and artists. Gentle hills kissed by the sun and caressed by the sea breeze. Located on the Etruscan coast, this village is a place full of charm, where time seems to slow down and beauty is everywhere. Thanks to its proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea, it enjoys a unique microclimate ideal for viticulture. The deep, sandy and clayey-sandy soils of alluvial origin, with the presence of pebbles, give the wine minerality and a beautiful complexity. A pure Vermentino, this white grape variety finds an ideal habitat in Tuscany. An aromatic grape, capable of expressing the characteristics of the terroir to the full. Harvested and selected by hand, the grapes are softly pressed and the must is cleaned naturally, leaving the particles in suspension to settle in a cool place for a whole night. Vinified without any corrections or additions, to preserve the integrity of the fruit, the wine is left to rest on the fine lees in steel vats for about 3 months, to enrich itself with complexity and structure. Guado al Melo's Airone is a light yellow colour in the glass, bright and inviting. On the nose, aromatic notes of fruit such as grapefruit, apricot and mango are initially perceived. Then sweet floral notes of orange blossom and linden, and an evolution towards hints of tea and peach, with a very slight note of bread crust and pastry. In the mouth it is medium-bodied and smooth, savoury and with a good freshness. A lively and changing wine, which continues to evolve over time, revealing new nuances with every sip. Ideal for aperitifs, fish menus and vegetarian cuisine, its freshness and flavour make it perfect to accompany light and delicate dishes.

Guado al Melo is a family-run winery in the hills of the Bolgheri DOC, run with passion and skill by the Scienza family, combining artisan production with sustainability. The project began in 1998, when Annalisa and Michele, in their late twenties but with a solid background of personal and family experience, started their personal adventure. Today Guado al Melo covers 16.5 hectares of vineyards, rich in biodiversity. The winery, the result of a bio-architecture project, is completely underground. It houses an interesting museum on the history and culture of wine, as well as a large library, collected over a lifetime of work by Professor Attilio Scienza, Michele's father and a renowned expert in viticulture and author of an important zoning study conducted in the mid-90s to fully understand the complexity of Bolgheri's soils. An interesting fact: the name Guado al Melo, which is the ancient name of this place, refers to the ford on the Fossa di Bolgheri stream, the waterway that surrounds the company's vineyards and gives the soils their alluvial quality.
