Tenute MFR Via Francesco Ascquasciati snc - 18010 Santo Stefano al Mare (IM)
There is no vine that is better suited to the sunny coasts of Vermento. From Sardinia to Tuscany, via Liguria, this interesting white grape variety likes to sink its roots just a few metres from the sea. Here we are in the sunny hills of Diano Marina, Liguria. It is here that Poggio dei Gorleri produces Vermentino Vigna Sorì, a DOC white wine with a beautiful personality. The carefully selected grapes are hand-picked at the right degree of ripeness to preserve the freshness and varietal aromas. Vinification takes place in stainless steel, at a controlled temperature. After ageing for six months in steel, the wine rests for a further four months in the bottle, refining and acquiring complexity. In the glass, its colour is straw yellow with golden reflections. On the nose, clear hints of citrus fruits, such as lemon and grapefruit, intertwine with notes of aromatic herbs, Mediterranean scrub and white flowers. In the mouth, it conquers with its tanginess, freshness and persistent minerality. Fish, shellfish and seafood. These are the pairings that absolutely must be tried.
We are in the heart of western Liguria. Here, sea, land and sea breeze are the characteristic elements of the small local wine production. This is where Tenute MFR is located, a fascinating reality born from the meeting of two wineries: SanSteva and Poggio dei Gorleri. The former, located in the municipality of Santo Stefano al Mare, has a special focus on the indigenous grape varieties of the Province of Imperia, with Moscatello di Taggia as its flagship wine. Poggio dei Gorleri, on the other hand, was founded in 2003, when the Merano family decided to take over a beautiful estate. In little more than twenty years, this winery has managed to win the acclaim of critics and enthusiasts alike thanks to its authentic wines, a faithful expression of the Ligurian terroir. Pigato and Vermentino reign supreme in the estate's vineyards, cradled by a privileged position and caressed by the sea breeze.
