Imbottigliato all'origine dalla Soc.Agr.Podere Guado al Melo- località Murrotto 130/A, 57022 Castagneto Carducci (Li)
Criseo di Guado al Melo is a white wine that comes from an interesting blend of different varieties: 70% Vermentino, with varying percentages of Fiano, Verdicchio, Petit Manseng and Manzoni Bianco. This unusual combination gives the wine an aromatic complexity and a pleasant structure. Vermentino, in particular, the main grape variety of the Tuscan coast, gives freshness and flavour. Fiano adds aromatic notes and structure, while Verdicchio contributes with its acidity and minerality. Petit Manseng, then, brings exotic notes and a good ageing capacity, and Manzoni Bianco completes the blend with elegance and finesse. Vinification begins with a soft pressing. The must ferments in steel at a controlled temperature to preserve the most delicate aromas. The ageing continues for 12 months in steel on the fine lees, enriching the finished wine with a beautiful texture and great complexity. The process is completed with a further period of rest in the bottle before the wine is released on the market. In the glass Criseo is an intense and satisfying sensory experience. It has a bright golden yellow colour and on the nose it recalls the slightly bitter notes of grapefruit, saffron, sage, broom and exotic fruit. The ageing on the lees gives rise to complex hints of beeswax, pastry, bread crust and yeast, as well as a slight mineral note of hydrocarbons that grows over time, without ever becoming predominant. Good already today, after a few years of ageing in the bottle it can prove even more interesting. Its producers guarantee that it has an ageing potential of about 10 years, during which time it develops complexity and depth. Ideal for white meats, tasty fish dishes and medium-aged cheeses.
Guado al Melo is a family-run winery in the hills of the Bolgheri DOC, run with passion and skill by the Scienza family, combining artisan tradition with sustainability. The project began in 1998, when Annalisa and Michele, in their late twenties but with a solid background of personal and family experience, started their personal adventure. Today Guado al Melo covers 16.5 hectares of vineyards, rich in biodiversity. The winery, the result of a bio-architecture project, is completely underground. It houses an interesting museum on the history and culture of wine, as well as a large library, collected over a lifetime of work by Professor Attilio Scienza, Michele's father and a renowned expert in viticulture and author of an important zoning study conducted in the mid-90s to fully understand the complexity of Bolgheri's soils. An interesting fact: the name Guado al Melo, which is the ancient name of this place, refers to the ford on the Fossa di Bolgheri stream, the waterway that surrounds the company's vineyards and gives the soils their alluvial quality.
