"Isolano" D&G Etna Bianco DOC 2021
  • Dolce&Gabbana and Donnafugata. Two 100% Italian brands, for once united by a great project that takes concrete form in this bottle. We are talking about Isolano, Etna Bianco DOC, from Carricante, on this occasion blended with a small percentage of other indigenous Sicilian varieties. Grapes from the eastern area of the island, and to be precise from the northern slope of Etna. A white of great character, this Isolano matures for 9 months in vats and, after bottling, continues with more than 12 months of ageing in the cellar before release. Straw yellow in colour with golden hues, the nose offers a refined bouquet with fragrant citrus scents of lemon peel, fruity notes of yellow apple and Mediterranean herbs. Isolano is a wine of great elegance that stands out for its persistence and extraordinary volcanic minerality. Perfect with shellfish, vegetarian first courses, porcini mushrooms, fish or white meat dishes.

There are wineries about which every good enthusiast thinks he knows everything. Simply because they have always represented the world of Italian wine. Among these, there is no doubt that a special place is occupied by Donnafugata. A winery that for many is synonymous with Sicily and quality wine. A historic brand owned by the Rallo family, Donnafugata produces wines in different areas of Sicily. From East to West, from Trapani to Etna, there is no wine-producing area in Sicily where Donnafugata does not have a vineyard. What few people know, however, is that the name Donnafugata is due to Gabriella Rallo, wife of the founder and mother of the two enterprising current managers of the company. Gabriella Anca Rallo, a courageous woman with a penchant for innovation, was a pioneer of quality viticulture in Sicily. She is the true 'donnafugata' (woman on the run) who abandoned her job as a teacher to take full-time care of the Contessa Entellina vineyards. One of the first women in Sicily to produce wine, in a sector typically dominated by men. A true pioneer of quality female viticulture. All that remains, therefore, is to say thank you to Gabriella. For being so courageous and for inspiring all this. Cheers!
