    "Ciuri di Strata" Sicilia Bianco DOC 2023
  • Sicilian DOC, in name and in fact. We are talking about the Sicilia Bianco Ciuri di Strata, proposed here by Al-Cantàra. A fine white wine born on the northern slopes of Etna, in Randazzo, in an area rich in history and winemaking tradition. We are about 620 metres above sea level. Here the vineyards, in a privileged position, enjoy a unique microclimate, influenced by cool mountain breezes and strong temperature excursions between day and night. All this guarantees a slow and gradual ripening of the grapes, preserving freshness and acidity. The volcanic soil also gives the grapes a unique savouriness and complexity. Pure Catarratto, the grapes come from vineyards with an average age of over 40 years. After harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed to obtain a clear, rich must. This is followed by fermentation, in temperature-controlled stainless steel, and an ageing period of about 6 months, also in stainless steel. In the glass, Ciuri di Strata shows a luminous straw yellow colour, enriched with delicate greenish reflections. The nose opens with elegant hints of citrus fruits, among which lemon stands out, accompanied by notes of passion fruit and subtle floral hints reminiscent of white flowers. In the mouth, it reveals itself to be fine and balanced, with good acidity that lends freshness and savouriness. The finish is persistent, leaving a sensation of cleanliness and lightness in the mouth. This Etnean white lends itself to pairings with light, delicate dishes. Ideal with seafood starters, grilled fish and salads. Its fine acidity also makes it an excellent companion for fresh cheeses and vegetarian dishes.

    Al-Cantàra was born from the happy intuition that a good wine is ‘poetry’ and to make it you need ‘art’ - as you can read on the winery's website. It is no coincidence that all the wines produced are named after poems by Sicilian authors, and the labels reflect the works of two young painters from Catania. We are in the heart of Sicily. In a corner of paradise located exactly in contrada Feudo S. Anastasia in the municipality of Randazzo, 620 metres above sea level. The summit of Mount Etna, not far away, watches over the vineyards and the winery from above. The name Al-Cantàra comes from the river that flows at the foot of the volcano. Although young, the company was officially opened in 2005, it has already established itself nationally and internationally thanks to the high quality of its wines, which have won awards from food and wine critics. Today the company has a total of 20 hectares of land, of which about 15 hectares are planted with vines. And of these, about 4 are historical, over 60 years old, with 1,000 pre-harvest vines. The overall production, mostly under the DOC Etna umbrella, is around 100 thousand bottles per year. Once again, tradition and innovation go hand in hand under the blue sky of Sicily.
