Falde represents the successful synthesis of the two most suitable areas for wine production in the eastern part of the island, thanks to the encounter between two prized indigenous grape varieties and an international variety that has adapted magnificently to the Sicilian climate. It is made from Insolia and Viognier grapes, grown on hilly, sandy soils, and from Carricante grapes grown at high altitude on lava soils, rich in minerals. After a delicate vinification phase, the wine is left to age in stainless steel tanks on fine lees and then for about 2 months in the bottle. The result is an intense, soft and aromatic white wine. To the eye it appears bright straw yellow. The bouquet is intense and citrusy, with floral hints and notes of exotic fruit. In the mouth, however, it is above all fresh, savoury and aromatic, with great pleasantness and balance. Ideal as an aperitif, at table it goes well with raw fish, white meats and fresh cheeses.
Who knows whether in 1898, when Francesco Nicosia, great-grandfather of the current owner, decided to open his first wine shop in Trecastagni, he already knew that Etna would one day become the very symbol of quality wine in Sicily. He probably hoped so. After all, Etna wine was already known and appreciated throughout Europe for its mineral strength and volcanic personality. From those fortunate beginnings to the current management the path has been long but consistent. Today the company is in the hands of Carmelo Nicosia, who has staked everything on the redevelopment of the business, investing in the expansion and restructuring of the vineyards, as well as in the construction of a modern processing cellar. Today Cantine Nicosia is a dynamic, modern and efficient company, capable of looking to the future while fully respecting tradition, thanks to a young but skilled staff. Native grape varieties and international varieties well adapted to the climate of Sicily, coexist to give life to wines of great personality, produced in full respect of the environment. The headquarters of the winery are still in Trecastagni, while most of the company's vineyards are not far away, at the foot of Monte Gorna, one of Etna's many extinct craters. The company also owns vast tracts of land in Vittoria, in the Ragusano area, where Cerasuolo DOCG is produced, and directly manages large expanses of vineyards in the rest of Sicily.
