The vibrant sour-cherry aroma of this extrovert young pinot noir leaps out of the glass at you. Ripe yet very focused on the medium-full palate, it also has a very good concentration of fine tannins and a complex, savory note at the long, very silky finish. Drink or hold.

"Monticol" Pinot Noir Alto Adige DOC Riserva 2021
    • Noble Mountain Pinot Noir, Monticol, Alto Adige DOC Riserva of Cantina di Terlano, is made from grapes grown in vineyards located at medium to high altitudes, between 450 and 600 metres above sea level. Here, in fact, the air currents descending from the snow-capped peaks cool the temperature even in high summer, allowing the Pinot Noir to reach perfect maturity, with aromas of rare finesse and complexity. After all, Pinot Noir is at home in these parts. And certainly not for a few years. In fact, it has been cultivated in these areas since the mid-19th century, producing structured and elegant reds. And this Monticol is certainly no exception. After vinification, it is matured for at least 12 months, partly in large wooden barrels and partly in barriques, about a third of which are new. Ruby red, the bouquet of this Pinot Noir is rich in facets. Fruity aromas of raspberries, cherries and berries, with delicate notes of spices and hints of flint. In the mouth, however, it is pleasantly balanced, with a distinct mineral elegance. Complex and persistent, it goes well with meat dishes that are not overly complex or rich in gravy.

Founded in 1893, the Cantina di Terlano is one of the most avant-garde wine cooperatives in the whole of Alto Adige. Its 143 current members cultivate 190 hectares of vineyards, producing a total annual output of around one and a half million bottles, divided into two lines, plus a few rarities of great oenological value. In the modern wine cellar, only DOC wines are produced, especially white wines, thanks to the new area created in 2009, where the wines have all the space they need to grow and develop to the full. From an architectural point of view, the Terlan Winery also deserves special mention. On the outside, part of the building has been covered with red porphyry, the typical rock of the area, while the roof of the winery has been greened and covered with vines, thus blending into the surrounding cultivated landscape. The wine archive of the cellar is unique in Italy with its 100,000 bottles from the 1955 vintage to the present day. However, the cellar also holds some ancient treasures: some bottles dating back to the year of its foundation!
