Pinot Noir Riserva "Sanct Valentin" DOC 2021
    • The Alto Adige DOC Sanct Valentin Pinot Noir Riserva is one of the flagship wines of Cantina San Michele Appiano, the result of the work and experience of winemaker Hans Terzer. Produced exclusively from the best grapes of the region, it is an elegant, layered and multidimensional wine, characterised by a beautiful minerality, refined aromas and considerable ageing potential. Cultivated in South Tyrol since 1850, Pinot Noir, or 'Blauburgunder', has always been a great challenge for winegrowers, as it is demanding on both soil and climate and also requires attention in the cellar. For the Pinot Noir Sanct Valentin, which has been produced since the 1995 harvest, only the best vines and oldest plants are used. Yields are kept to a minimum and maximum care is taken, guaranteeing the production of an elegant wine with a beautiful structure, good balance and fine tannins. A wine that, among other things, guarantees extraordinary ageing potential. Matured for about a year in tonneau barriques, it is then refined for at least 10 months in cement tanks before bottling. In the glass it is ruby red in colour and on the nose it offers aromas of small red berries, strawberries, violets, smoky notes and cinnamon. In the mouth it is pleasantly spicy and soft, but above all it proves to be a 'world champion of elegance'. With an ageing potential of 10 years and more, this wine is ideal with lamb recipes and more intense cheeses. Sanct Valentin Pinot Noir Riserva is also a precious gift for a truly passionate friend.

Approximately 2 million bottles per year. Very high average quality. About 350 members. These are the numbers, and the facts, that characterise the beautiful cooperative winery in San Michele Appiano. Founded in 1907 by a few wine growers who were visionary in their own way, today it is one of the most solid entities in Northern Italy, with wines that are appreciated, and awarded, all over the world. If one thinks of Alto Adige and its good varietals, San Michele Appiano cannot be missed. Its production, in fact, is dominated by wines made from grapes typical of the region, from Gewürztraminer to Müller Thurgau. From Sauvignon to Riesling. From Pinot Bianco to Lagrein. All mountain grapes that grow thanks to the mild climate and the unique soils of its vineyards. Today, the winery has around 400 hectares under vine. An enormous area, if one thinks of Alto Adige, but small in absolute terms. Especially when one considers the number of members in the winery. When it comes to vineyard management, a team of technicians and agronomists is constantly at each winegrower's side, offering valuable advice on how to manage their rows. The result is grapes of the highest quality, which, once they reach the winery, are processed to enhance every nuance, thanks to the most innovative oenological techniques. Welcome to Alto Adige.
