Santa Maddalena Classico Alto Adige DOC 2021
  • There is no wine more representative of the Alto Adige region than the St. Maddalena. A fresh and not too intense red. A pleasantly drinkable wine that can also be served slightly cooler. Perfect paired with a nice board of cold cuts and cheeses. The version proposed here by the Hans Rottensteiner winery comes from a skilful blend of 95% Schiava grapes and only a residual 5% Lagrein. Fermented and matured in steel, in the glass it has a beautiful ruby red colour. The nose is intensely fruity, with an evident memory of cherries and wild strawberries. Then memories of violets and dried hay. In the mouth it is above all drinkable, fresh and well-balanced.

Never mind that the name is of clear German origin. The Hans Rottensteiner winery is 100% South Tyrolean and has been deeply tied to its territory since its foundation in 1530. A family business, the winery has been run by several generations of winemakers. Today, it is Hannes who takes over the role of winemaker, leaving his father Anton in charge of the vineyard. The estate is located near Bolzano, in a very suggestive alpine valley. Rows of grapes, fruit trees and ancient farms. The Rottensteiner family cultivates mainly autochthonous grapes, such as Schiava and Lagrein. Nearly ten hectares of property, not a few for the area, conducted with passion and full respect for nature and the environment, which are joined by another 75 trusted local suppliers. And if the grapes are of the highest quality, in the cellar the most modern wine-making technologies do the rest. The wines of the beautiful South Tyrolean winery are here to be tried.
