  • Sensations Ruby red colour with slight garnet hues, intense and complex aromas with hints of ripe fruit, cherry and morello cherry. Soft delicate taste, vinous and fruity tannins, good structure and persistence. Excellent wine for meals, particularly suitable for roasts, game and spicy cheeses.
  • Vinification Harvesting is carried out manually in small containers for transport to the winery. After destemming, the must is brought with its own gravity into stainless steel vats for fermentation (20-24 days). After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in large oak barrels (12 hl) and small barrels (barriques). Further ageing for 8 months in large casks (70 hl) and 6 months in the bottle.

VINEYARD
  • Terrain For this wine we use only selected grapes, harvested on suitable soils with minimum yields. Most of the grapes come from our Mazzon production area, which is characterized by clayey soil containing silt, and debris from the disintegration of limestone. The remaining grapes come from the Pinzon area, not far from Mazzon, where the climate is warmer, and from Cornaiano in the Oltradige.

    The Girlan 2017 Alto Adige Pinot Noir Riserva Trattmann is a lovely expression with a full load of berry fruit, wild rose, candied orange peel and aniseed. The wine grows in intensity and focus as it opens and warms in the glass, imparting some minty apple as it does. The close is spicy and fresh. This Riserva offers a firm backbone and just enough structure to pair with a meat dish cooked with cream or butter. The fruit represents a blend from the prized Mazzon vineyard (with chalky clay soils) and a site in Cornaiano with gravel soils. One adds to the mouthfeel and the other the bouquet. Some 30,000 bottles were released.

  • Trattmann is a Pinot Noir, Alto Adige DOC, from the Girlan winery. It comes from a very careful selection of grapes from vineyards in the municipality of Mazzon, from Pinzon, not far away, and from Cornaiano in the Oltradige. Harvested by hand, after destemming the must is transferred by gravity into stainless steel vats where fermentation takes place. Then, after malolactic fermentation, it is aged for 12 months in large oak casks and barriques. This is followed by a further refinement of about 8 months in a large 70-hectolitre cask and another 6 months in the bottle. The result is a wine characterized by a beautifully intense ruby red colour with hints of light garnet. Intense and complex aromas with hints of ripe fruit, cherry and marasca cherry. In the mouth it is soft delicate, vinous, with fruity tannins, good structure and persistence.

    23 must be a lucky number. At least in South Tyrol. Yes, because in 1923 the Girlan Winery was founded and, as chance would have it, it was founded by 23 winegrowers. Cabal aside, the winery is housed in a historic 16th century farmhouse. Behind these walls of ancient tradition and in the intricate corridors of the Cellar, nowadays the secrets of cutting-edge wine-making technology and the ideal conditions for aging wines are hidden. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since then. And wines in those cellars. Today, 200 winegrowers are involved in the Girlan project, spread over an area of approximately 220 hectares. Vineyards in the best production areas of Oltradige and Bassa Atesina, all worked with great dedication. The oenologist responsible for the creation of the wines is Gerhard Kofler, who personally takes care of the contacts with the vintners, giving his advice in the most delicate phases of the season.
