"Laurin" Lagrein Merlot Alto Adige DOC 2021
    • From Alto Adige comes this Laurin, an interesting blend of Lagrein and Merlot grapes. It is produced by the Girlan Winery, which chooses different types of soil to harvest its grapes. In part, the grapes come from the hilly vineyards of the Oltradige, at an altitude of around 450 - 500 metres above sea level. In part, however, they come from the Bassa Atesina, where the soils are sandy, warm and deep. Harvested by hand in small containers, the must is precipitated by gravity into stainless steel vats, where it ferments for about two weeks. Then, after malolactic fermentation, it is transferred to barriques and large oak casks for maturation, which lasts about 18 months. In this wine, the soft, velvety harmony of Lagrein and Merlot is enriched by a delicate woody tone. The result is a pleasant, full-bodied red wine with a modern character, which goes exceptionally well with grilled meats, game and spicy cheeses.

23 must be a lucky number. At least in South Tyrol. Yes, because in 1923, the Girlan Winery was founded and, as chance would have it, it was founded by 23 winegrowers. Cabal aside, the winery is located in a historic 16th century farmhouse. Behind these traditional walls and in the intricate corridors of the cellar, the secrets of cutting-edge wine-making technology and the ideal conditions for ageing the wines are now hidden. A lot of water has passed under the bridge. And of wines in those cellars. Today, 200 winegrowers are involved in the Girlan project, spread over an area of approximately 220 hectares of vineyards. Vineyards in the best production areas of the Oltradige and Bassa Atesina, all worked with great dedication. The oenologist responsible for the creation of the wines is Gerhard Kofler, who personally maintains contact with the winegrowers and provides advice during the most delicate phases of the season. The result is here to be experienced. Wines of the highest quality, divided into three distinct lines: Le Selezioni, I Vigneti and I Classici.
