Weingut Tiefenbrunner Via Castello 4 - Niclara 39040, Cortaccia sulla Strada del Vino (BZ)
Tiefenbrunner's Turmhof Lagrein is a wine that tells a thousand-year-old story. The name ‘Turmhof’, in fact, evokes the ancient castle that dominates the estate, a place full of charm and history, where time seems to stand still. The vineyards from which Turmhof Lagrein originates extend on sunny slopes, at an altitude of up to 900 metres. Here, Lagrein, a native vine with a strong soul, finds its ideal habitat. The roots of the vines sink into gravelly soils, rich in minerals, which give the wines an extraordinary complexity and depth. Vinification takes place in accordance with ancient traditions, thanks to the use of special cement vats, where the grapes ferment in contact with the skins for a prolonged period. Subsequently, the wine matures in wood, in both small and large barrels, to acquire complexity and harmony. In the glass it has an intense ruby colour with violet hues. The nose reveals a broad and complex bouquet, with notes of ripe red fruit, such as cherries and blackberries, enriched by delicate floral and spicy nuances. In the mouth it is full and enveloping, with silky tannins and a vibrant acidity that balances its structure. The finish is long and persistent, with a return of fruity notes and a pleasant mineral aftertaste. A versatile wine, it lends itself to various occasions. Perfect with traditional South Tyrolean dishes such as speck, dumplings and mature cheeses. It also goes well with grilled or braised red meats, game and blue cheeses.
Today we find ourselves in the rolling hills of Alto Adige, where the historic Tiefenbrunner winery is located. A name that, for wine lovers (Italian but not only), immediately evokes wines of extraordinary elegance and complexity, the fruit of centuries of experience and profound knowledge of the territory. For more than a century and a half, the Tiefenbrunner family has handed down their passion for wine-growing from generation to generation, carefully cultivating their vineyards and selecting the finest grapes. Today, it is Christof Tiefenbrunner who runs the company together with his wife Sabine. Seventh generation of a dynasty that has made quality its trademark. The winery is based in Niclara, in an ancient 12th century fortress surrounded by a vast park that seems straight out of a fairy tale. Here, among century-old plants, a pond and sculptures from the late 19th century, time seems to stand still. But Tiefenbrunner is not only an enchanted place. It is also an avant-garde company that constantly invests in research and innovation. The winery is equipped with a hydroelectric power station that guarantees energy self-sufficiency, testifying to a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. Today, the winery can count on more than 25 hectares, spread over different terroirs that give the wines a wide range of aromas and nuances. In addition to its own vineyards, the winery also works with other winegrowers in the area, selecting only the best grapes.
