Konrad Oberhofer. Piazza Municipio, 7, 39040 Termeno (BZ)
Konrad Oberhofer gives us this super traditional Lagrein, made from pure grapes from hillside vineyards with soils composed of clay, gravel and sand. Following a selective harvest, the grapes are destemmed and the must is fermented for about 10 days at a controlled temperature. During fermentation, the must remains in continuous contact with the skins and, towards the end of fermentation, the temperature is allowed to rise slightly for better extraction of colour and flavour. With its characteristic bright ruby colour, it strikes an excellent balance between intensity and complexity of aromas. The spicy notes of small berries and violets are accompanied by an immediate, clean, captivating and fresh fragrance. In the mouth, it is harmonious and persistent, with refined tannins and a velvety, rounded body. The finish is slightly spicy with a very balanced acidity. A perfect wine to accompany tasty South Tyrolean snacks, with speck, cold cuts and cheese. Also excellent with game and red meat.
Konrad Oberhofer was a winegrower with a pioneering approach. Recognising the potential of his vineyards, he began to vinify the grapes of the individual estates separately, thus increasing the quality of his wines. This modern vision soon led him to abandon the sale of bulk wine, opting for marketing in bottles. Today, with the same perseverance and passion as then, Martin Foradori has picked up his grandfather Konrad's baton, selecting and vinifying grapes from the prized vineyards of Alto Adige, in order to carry on the historic tradition of his family and its world-renowned wines. Whereas in the past it was the Schiava, a local native grape variety, that monopolised the market, today it is the other varieties such as Lagrein, also native, and the noble Pinot Noir. With them Gewürztraminer, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon and Müller Thurgau.
