Damilano - via roma 31 - Barolo
Cantina Damilano's Barolo Lecinquevigne comes from 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown on the hills of Barolo. A terroir with a vocation for producing wines of great value. Here the vines, situated at an altitude of around 300 metres above sea level, benefit from a temperate climate and are rooted in a soil rich in limestone and marl, giving the grapes the ideal characteristics to produce a Barolo with great structure and complexity. Traditionally vinified, this Barolo is fermented for at least 30 months in Slavonian oak barrels. This is followed by ageing in the bottle for a further 12 months. This ageing process allows the wine to best develop its organoleptic characteristics, acquiring the elegance and complexity that make it a Barolo of great value. Lecinquevigne presents itself in the glass with an intense ruby red colour, with orange reflections that develop with age. The nose reveals a complex and enveloping bouquet, with notes of rose, leather, tobacco, violet and tar. In the mouth it is broad and soft, with silky tannins and a long, lingering finish. A Barolo for meditation, this Damilano house wine is perfect to be enjoyed with mature cheeses, red meats and game. In the cellar, if stored well, this wine can be aged for many years, acquiring even greater complexity and elegance with time.
Damilano is one of Barolo's historic wineries with ancient traditions. Even 'more than a century old'. In fact, the Damilano family's activity dates back to 1890, when Giuseppe Borgogno, great-grandfather of the current owners, began cultivating and vinifying the estate's grapes in the commune of Barolo. However, it was with the next generation, with Giacomo Damilano, the founder's son-in-law, that the winery took on its current name. Since 1997, it is his grandsons who have been at the helm of the fine Langa winery. Guido, Mario and Paolo Damilano carry on their ancestors' work with commitment, making the most of the Langhe's main grape variety, Nebbiolo, and the most suitable vineyards. But the secret of the high quality of Damilano wines is to be found in the vineyards, located in the elective areas for the production of Nebbiolo grapes, such as the Cannubi, Liste, Brunate and Cerequio Cru.
