DAMILANO AZIENDA AGRICOLA S.r.l – Via Roma 31-12060 Barolo (CN)
The 2013 Barolo Cannubi is a layered and enriched expression that shows both elegance and power. This is a beautiful quality that is so specific to the celebrated Cannubi cru. The wine is silky and dense in texture and offers generous aromas of dark fruit, cassis, licorice and balsam herb. There is moist earth and some dustiness on the finish. The Barolo offers all of the most graceful aromatic highlights that you should expect of Nebbiolo. These qualities will improve with age.
A rich and polished red with plums, berries, hints of spices and mushrooms. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a pretty finish. Drink in 2019.
Underbrush, new leather and iris aromas form the expressive nose along with a whiff of woodland berry. Full-bodied and enveloping, the taut, elegantly structured palate offers dried black cherry, licorice, mocha and tobacco framed in firm, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced and energized. Drink through 2033. KERIN O’KEEFE
Cannubi is considered the Grand Cru of Barolo, an extraordinary wine in terms of style and elegance. This is due to the absolute quality of the grapes from the hill of the same name, where the soils are poorly developed, consisting of greyish-white clay marls on the surface. In the part owned by the Damilano family, in particular, the soil has a high percentage of sand (up to 45%) that gives the grapes intense aromas of cherry, plum and tobacco, rose and violet in evolution. Intense and lively in colour, Barolo Cannubi by Damilano presents itself in the glass with an intense polyphenolic concentration. At first glance, its ruby-garnet red colour with a limited presence of orange reflections is striking. The bouquet is particularly broad and enveloping, with clear fruity notes of cherry and plum and evolved hints of tobacco, liquorice and cocoa. In the mouth, on the other hand, one immediately discovers a pleasantly harmonious and dry wine, with soft tannins and clear sensations of body and fullness. A Barolo that is fabulous even today but that is in no hurry to leave its bottle. A wine of this calibre has the capacity to continue to mature for a long time in the cellar. It only requires a suitable environment for its rest. Let's wake it up in 10 or 15 years.... It will still be able to give us great, great satisfaction. Truffles, braised meats and rich roasts. This wine will certainly be able to make every dish taste even better.
Damilano is one of Barolo's historic wineries with ancient traditions. Over a hundred years old, even. In fact, the Damilano family's activity dates back to 1890, when Giuseppe Borgogno, great-grandfather of the current owners, began cultivating and vinifying the grapes he owned in the commune of Barolo. However, it was with the next generation, with Giacomo Damilano, the founder's son-in-law, that the winery took on its current name. Since 1997, his grandsons have been at the helm of the fine Langa winery. Guido, Mario and Paolo Damilano carry on the work of their ancestors with commitment, making the most of the Langhe's main grape variety, Nebbiolo, and the most suitable vineyards. But the secret of the high quality of Damilano wines is to be found in the vineyards, located in the elective areas for the production of Nebbiolo grapes, such as the Cannubi, Liste, Brunate and Cerequio Cru.
