The 2015 Barolo Cerequio is a nicely balanced and easy wine with a fleshy and fruit-forward personality. This Barolo is from one of the appellation's greatest crus, and it offers a level of softness and richness that you will unlikely find in the other vintages. The wine is gearing up for a healthy and long bottle evolution ahead. A mere 2,700 bottles were produced.

    • James Suckling 96

Dark-berry, iron, cedar and floral aromas follow through to a full body, tight and chewy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. A big and chewy red. Needs four or five years to soften. Better after 223.

    • Wine Enthusiast 91

Blue flower, wild herb and woodland berry aromas shape the nose. Elegantly structured, the focused palate shows cranberry, Marasca cherry, crushed mint and star anise set against fine-grained tannins. Drink 2023–2030. KERIN O’KEEFE

      Barolo DOCG Cerequio 2015
    • Lovers of Barolo, and of good wines in general, this is a bottle that really should not be missed. Because it is offered by Damilano, which has been an absolute protagonist of the Langhe for more than a century, but above all because the label bears the word Cerequio, which immediately brings to mind one of the area's most beautiful panoramas. Cerequio, in fact, one of the MGAs envisaged by the Barolo production regulations, is an amphitheatre of vineyards on the balcony of the Langhe. We are in the commune of La Morra, in an area particularly protected from cold winds, with soils that give tannic, robust, powerful wines. In this case, Damilano's rows of vines are about 320 metres above sea level, with an eastern exposure. Plants over 20 years old, capable of producing bunches of rare quality. After slow maturation in the cellar, this Barolo is a beautiful garnet red colour in the glass, with orange reflections produced by ageing. Fruity notes, with cherry in clear evidence, and the typical violet, which in this case is accompanied by balsamic, vanilla and liquorice hints. In the mouth it is intense, elegant and persistent. Red fruit, tobacco and leather with age. A great Barolo that requires a great pairing. Of the territory, of course.

Damilano is one of Barolo's historic wineries with ancient traditions. Over a hundred years old, even. In fact, the Damilano family's activity dates back to 1890, when Giuseppe Borgogno, great-grandfather of the current owners, began cultivating and vinifying the grapes he owned in the commune of Barolo. However, it was with the next generation, with Giacomo Damilano, the founder's son-in-law, that the winery took on its current name. Since 1997, his grandsons have been at the helm of the fine Langa winery. Guido, Mario and Paolo Damilano carry on the work of their ancestors with commitment, making the most of the Langhe's main grape variety, Nebbiolo, and the most suitable vineyards. But the secret of the high quality of Damilano wines is to be found in the vineyards, located in the elective areas for the production of Nebbiolo grapes, such as the Cannubi, Liste, Brunate and Cerequio Cru.
