Costera is a classic Cannonau di Sardegna DOC, probably the red wine that most immediately calls to mind Sardinia. Although it is considered an indigenous Sardinian wine, the origins of Cannonau are not known with certainty. It seems, however, that it was already present on Sardinian soil at the time of the Spanish domination, i.e. the period to which, historically, its introduction dates back. Argiolas collects it in its Sisini Estate, about 60 hectares on the hills of the homonymous municipality. Here the Cannonau plants grow sun-kissed at an altitude of between 250 and 300 metres above sea level. An intense wine with character, Costera matures in small oak barrels for a period of 8-10 months. Intense ruby red with garnet hues, the nose is described as intensely vinous, a character that is typical of Cannonau. In the mouth it reveals a full body and a pleasantly round taste. A wine characterised by a perfect balance between all its components, this Costera is the wine that any good Sardinian would uncork to accompany the classic barbecued suckling pig.
