Tenuta Gorghi Tondi s.a.s. di Annamaria e Clara Agata Sala - Soc. Agr. - C.da San Nicola, sn 91026 Mazara del Vallo (TP)
Coste a Preola. This is the name of the vineyards on the western edge of the island, close to the Mediterranean Sea, in an area bordering the WWF Nature Reserve Lago Preola e Gorghi Tondi. A 100% Nero d'Avola, this wine is made from grapes grown in south-western Sicily, between Mazara del Vallo and Trapani, at an altitude of around 25 metres above sea level. A certified organic red, the grapes of the Coste a Preola Nero d'Avola come from a 12-year-old vineyard. Harvesting takes place during the second ten days of September. Once the grapes arrive at the winery, they are immediately sent for processing. The must ferments in steel at a controlled temperature, with a maceration period of about 2 weeks. At the end of the alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation also takes place and the wine thus obtained matures in steel, in contact with its fine lees, for about 7 months before bottling. In the glass it has a beautiful bright ruby red colour with violet hues. The nose reveals good complexity, a sweet spiciness with hints of black cherry and small berries. In the mouth it is rich, intense and soft. Justly tannic, it reveals an excellent persistence. Excellent with grilled red meat, game, truffle dishes, spicy and mature cheeses.
Clara and Annamaria Sala are two true women of wine. They are the daughters of art and today they are the face, young and sunny, of a beautiful Sicilian winery. We are talking about Gorghi Tondi, an estate located in Mazzara del Vallo, within a natural context of rare beauty. We are, in fact, inside a WWF protected oasis, where the blue of the sky and the sea blend with the whiteness of the beach and the green of the vineyards that reach just a few metres from the shoreline. An enchanting place to visit where, after having quenched the spirit, one also has the opportunity to taste wines of great elegance. Gorghi Tondi was born from the love of nature of Dora, Annamaria and Clara's great-grandmother. In 2000, father Michele, with over forty years' experience in the world of wine, decided, together with his wife Doretta and daughters, to start his own company, focusing on the production of organic and sulphite-free wines. The grapes are cultivated between the sea and the land, within the integral nature reserve Lago Preola e Gorghi Tondi, in Mazara del Vallo. 130 hectares, cradled by the sea breeze. Unique and unrepeatable environmental conditions.
