Imbottigliato all'origine da Travaglini- Via delle Vigne 36 -13045 Gattinara (VC)
Gattinara DOCG by Travaglini is the historical label of the Piedmontese winery, produced from Nebbiolo grapes. This wine is distinguished by its elegance, complexity and capacity for ageing. Gattinara is a small, charming town located in Upper Piedmont, at the foot of Monte Rosa. The hills of this region benefit from a unique climate, influenced by the natural protection offered by the Alpine chain. Here, a unique microclimate ensures gradual and regular ripening of the grapes. The soil of Gattinara is of volcanic origin, rich in minerals such as iron, magnesium and silica, which give the wine a distinct minerality and flavour. The Nebbiolo, cultivated on volcanic soil, acquires a unique character, with great elegance, structure and noble tannins. The grapes, harvested by hand in the estate vineyards, are selected to ensure that only the best bunches are used to make this wine. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and, after fermentation, the wine is aged for several years in large oak barrels. This long period of ageing allows for a perfect balance of acidity, tannins and aromas. In the glass it is garnet-coloured, brilliant and transparent. On the nose, violets and rose petals, with spicy and balsamic nuances with age. Mineral notes, typical of the volcanic terrain, emerge on the finish, with deep, ferrous hints. In the mouth, the balance is perfect: the tannins are silky and well integrated. The freshness is lively, and the persistence is long, with hints of small red fruits and fruit jellies that blend with the floral notes. To be paired with rich, structured dishes, it goes well with red meats, game, roasts and mature cheeses. It is also ideal for dishes with porcini mushrooms or truffles.
The Travaglini winery, located in the heart of Gattinara, represents one of the most significant realities of Alto Piemonte. Its history began in the 1920s, when Clemente Travaglini, recognising the unique potential of this land, decided to start a small winery. His pioneering spirit and his passion for wine laid the foundations of a company that, generation after generation, has continued to grow and innovate, without ever losing its deep connection with the territory. In the 1950s, with the arrival of Giancarlo Travaglini, the company took a decisive step towards modernisation, thanks to new methods of cultivation and vinification. And it was he who, in 1958, designed and patented the famous ‘crooked bottle’, the distinctive symbol of Travaglini and of Gattinara in the world. Today the company is run by the fourth and fifth generation of the family, with Cinzia Travaglini and her husband Massimo Collauto, joined by their daughters Alessia and Carolina.
